TAPIO Technologies Oy SAMPLE PREPARATION FOR CD PROFILE MEASUREMENT 1) 35 full width CD sheets are cut from the parent reel. The sheets should be at least 60 cm wide (Fig. 1), and should be cut straight across the width of the reel. Clearly mark the drive and the tending side on the samples, as well as top and bottom side. Note the date, time, reel number, and PM number. At least 3 layers from the top of the parent reel are discarded to avoid markings of the reeler. min. 60 cm 35 sheets CD Figure 1. Taking samples 2) Sample sheets are rolled on a core to avoid any folds or wrinkles in the samples, as they are moved. 3) Unroll the sample roll on a long flat surface. 4) The sheets are taped together (head on; Fig. 2) and cut to a width of 5 cm … 26 cm. This is done sheet by sheet, and the strips are rolled on a core to form a continuous strip on a roll. tape Sample 1 Sample 2 Figure 2. Taping samples All the samples are taped so, that the drive side of each sample is rolled first in the sample roll. The top side of each sample is always on the top in the sample roll. In the beginning and in the end of the roll, at least 10 m of extra paper is taped to speed up the measurement device. 5) During making of the sample roll, the condition of samples is visually checked. All the samples, which have wrinkles in them, or are not of full width, or have some other fault, have to be discarded from the sample roll.
