2011-2012 FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
WASHINGTON, D.C.
The Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) offers full-time
legislative and public policy fellowships in Washington, D.C.
Term: Nine months (beginning in September 2011 and ending in May 2012)
Benefits:
 Fellowship placement in a Congressional office, Federal agency, or non-profit organization
 $20,000 stipend to cover housing and personal expenses
 Separate stipend for basic health insurance coverage
 Complimentary air travel to and from Washington, D.C. (provided by Southwest Airlines)
Minimum Requirements to Apply for the 2011-2012 APAICS Fellowship Program:
 Demonstrated interest in the political process and public policy
 Demonstrated understanding of Asian Pacific American community affairs
 Demonstrated leadership abilities
 Relevant work/internship experience
 Excellent oral and written communication skills
 Bachelor’s degree or graduate degree from an accredited educational institution
 Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
 U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency by September 1, 2011
Letters of recommendation and official transcripts must be postmarked by March 31, 2011.
All other application materials must be received by March 31, 2011 at apaics@apaics.org.
Semi-finalists will be contacted for a telephone interview. All applicants will receive a final
decision by June 2011.

 Both pages of the 2011-2012 APAICS Fellowship Program Application Form, completed
and digitally signed (check box)
 A cover letter addressing why you should be selected for an APAICS Fellowship
Program and how the fellowship will further your personal and professional goals
 A résumé listing your educational background, work experience, extracurricular
activities, community involvement, and honors/awards received
 A writing sample addressing the following prompt (not to exceed 750 words)
What role does the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) play and
why do you want to be an integral part of the Caucus?
The application materials listed above should be combined into one digital file and submitted
as a Microsoft Word document (*.doc, *.docx) or Adobe PDF (*.pdf). If you have any questions

In addition to the above, please have the following materials sent directly to the APAICS office:
 One copy of your official transcript from each school from which you received a degree
and/or are currently enrolled (sent directly from each school to APAICS)
 Two (2) letters of recommendation (from persons not related to you) who can evaluate
your potential as a fellow (e.g., from an employer, community leader and/or professor)
