Expression of Commitment to COST Action ES-0604 Title: “Water Vapour in the Climate System (WaVaCS)” 1./ Individual’s Name: Stefan A. Buehler 2./ Organization Name & Address: Department of Space Science Lulea University of Technology Box 812 98128 Kiruna Sweden Phone: +46 980 7 9177 Fax: +46 980 7 9050 Email: sbuehler at ltu.se 3./ Contribution: a./ Role in Action: MC member. b./ Parts of the scientific programme where contributions will be made: Contributions to first and third work area of the COST Action (observations, integration of theoretical and experimental knowledge). In collaboration with Mathias Milz from same research group. 4./ Deliverables: Humidity climatologies from satellite sensors, in particular operational meteorological microwave instruments. Derivation of climatologies from satellite data, and comparison/validation against other data sets. 5./ Timetable: First half 2008: Comparison to IR. 2008/2009: Processing of all available microwave data, comparison to other data sets 2009/2010: Time series analysis 6./ Manpower approximately dedicated to the Action: Myself, plus coworker Mathias Milz. 7./ Assurance: Activities agree with our own research agenda. Explicit funding for our contribution and the contribution of the other Swedish partners has been applied for at the Swedish Research Council. Application result is not yet known. If not funded externally, our contribution will be funded LTU internally. 8./ Foreseen collaboration: With Patrick Eriksson (Chalmers) and coworkers: Satellite data analysis tools and climatology cross-validation. With Ulrika Willén (SMHI) and coworkers: Climate model comparison. With Sheila Kirckwood (IRF) and coworkers: Lagrangian model comparison. With other WG1 partners: Intercomparison / cross-validation activities. 9./ Previous experience: Humidity climatology and satellite remote sensing research experience since 1995. COST experience as chairman of COST 723. 10./ Publications: (list relevant publications since 2002) Only first author publications with peer-review are listed here.
