Cleaning Checklist
BEDROOMS








Dust all window sills, ledges, bedposts etc..
Vacuum edges of carpet with vacuum tools (if any)
Vacuum lamp shades with tools, if no tools use a clean rag to dust them
Make any unmade beds
Organize and pick up any objects out of place
Look for cobwebs in all corners
Make sure all doorknobs, hinges, and panels on doors are dusted
Move any moveable furniture and vacuum underneath i.e. foot stools, small
chairs
BATHROOMS








Dust light bulbs with a dry cloth. Light bulbs will shatter if any dampness
touches them when they are on
Scrub all toilets on the inside and out, even if they look like they were never used
Dust any shelves, towel racks, toilet paper holders etc..
Spray bathroom cleaner in showers, and tubs, then let them soak for approx. 5
min. Then scrub and rinse, and wipe dry
Make sure to leave no streaks on the mirrors, sinks, faucets, or handles anywhere
in the house. Use Windex and a clean rag to polish shiny objects
Always wipe down front of drawers and cabinets
Scrub floors by hand making sure to wipe down any type of baseboard and trim
Always fold towels so they are hanging neatly
KITCHEN







Start by cleaning fronts of cabinets
Then work down to the counter tops. Kitchen spray like Fantastic or 409 works
best on Formica counter tops. For stains use any cleanser with bleach. Lightly
rub with cloth. Never use an abrasive or scrubby pad on counter tops
Clean out microwave. It works best if you spray Fantastic or 409 in it first and
soak for approx. 5 min. then thoroughly wipe out
Wipe down the handles, top and front of refrigerator
Wipe down tables and chairs and chair legs
Wipe the top of stove, even the burners, racks or burner pans if needed
Scour out the sink with soft scrub with bleach, use a scrubby pad to clean out then
wipe out with rag, make sure to scrub the drain and drain plug

Spray fronts of appliances, stove, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, toaster,
etc. with Windex, make them shine. If stainless steel use stainless steel cleaner or
wipe with warm water only!

Vacuum floors, or sweep. Vacuuming is more effective if the vacuum has the
right tools

Use soapy water (Mr. Clean or Lysol. for any tile or linoleum floors.)You can use
a mop if the floor is too large to clean by hands and knees. But make sure to clean
all edges by hand and dry with a large towel
LIVING/DINING ROOM












Dust all window sills, and blinds. If wooden blinds clean by hand using a rag
with polish on it and wipe every individual slot. This will take some time so I
would suggest cleaning just a few blinds per cleaning session
Always pick up small items on end tables or shelves, clean underneath, clean the
object then put back in place
If they are metal, wipe down with soapy water and a rag and try to get in every
slot, but be careful as they bend easily
Vacuum furniture with vacuum tools when needed. Vacuum underneath all
couch/chair cushions and fluff all cushions, and pillows
Use wood polish on all wood furniture, unless advised not to by the client. Dust
legs of all chairs, and tables
Make sure all glass tops are smudge and streak free
Take vacuum edger when needed and edge the carpets
Move small furniture and vacuum underneath
Vacuum curtains when needed with vacuum tools
Dust ceiling fans if you can reach, or if they have an extension duster use that
Vacuum all lampshades
Vacuum entire room and do not step foot on the carpet after vacuumed. That
goes for all the rooms. We do not want to put feet print back onto the carpet
OFFICE



Dust under all paperwork, but place back exactly where it was
Dust all furniture, computers, legs, shelves, chairs, etc.
Wipe down all phones, everywhere in the house
OTHER COMMON TIPS









Clean glass doors inside and out with Windex or glass solution
Wipe down all light switches and surrounding wall area with soapy water
Make sure the house is organized and picked up before you leave
Put all cleaning supplies away when finished, bucket, rags, etc.
Shake all rugs out outside
Dust all railings at every cleaning
Look everywhere for cobwebs
Once you have cleaned a room, refrain from re-entering
Take out all garbage, and make sure all wastebaskets are wiped down. If really dirty
just put in laundry tub and scrub down
 Re-fold all towels in bathrooms, so they are hanging neatly
 Ask client if they want anything special cleaned like the refrigerator, stove, windows,
laundry, dishwasher cleaned out, etc...
 NEVER PUT ANYTHING DOWN TOILETS EXEPCT TOILET PAPER!
Many clients have those disposable toilet brushed but some can not be
flushed.
NEVER SPRAY CLEANING CHEMICALS ON FAUCETS IT CAN ETCH OR
DISCOLOR THE FAUCETS, MANY FAUCETS ARE OVER $500!
NEVER LEAVE WATER ON A WOOD FLOOR, ALWAYS DRY THEM BY
FOLDING A LARGE TOWEL UNDER YOUR FEET AND SHIMMY BACK AND
FOURTH ON THE FLOOR UNTIL DRY.

CLEANING SUPPLIES WE LIKE
Toilet bowl cleaner - Lysol with Bleach. To get rid of toilet rings use a pumas stone.
Mirrors & Windows - Windex or a mixture of ¾ water to ¼ vinegar or mix 1/2 gallon of
distilled water, 1 cup of sudsy ammonia and ½ pint of isopropyl alcohol, then pour into a
spray bottle.
Bathroom Tubs & Showers- Tilex Soap Scum, for soap scum and Tilex Mildew for
mildew only use ceramic tile surfaces. For natural stone, go to your local tile shop and
purchase Mb-5, or put a few drops of dish soap in a spray bottle of water, wash, rinse
and dry, or a few drops in a bucket of warm water for natural stone floor. For
disinfecting, you can put 1 tablespoon of Lysol or Mr. Clean into a bucket of warm water
and wipe down then dry.
Woodwork - Any type of polish with lemon oil, pure lemon oil works the best. Do not
put furniture polish on wood with a shiny finish, it will just smear, instead wipe with a
damp rag or warm water and dry.
Kitchen - 409 or Fantastic, Soft Scrub with Bleach works great in white porcelain/cast
iron sinks. For granite and marble counter tops, go to your local tile shop and ask for
Mb-5, this is a specific cleaner to use on those surfaces. Or mix a mild soap, like dish
soap or an earth friendly multi propose cleaner like Restore with water and pour into a
spray bottle. 1 teaspoon of solution to a spray bottle of water or 2-3 drops of dish soap.
Stainless Steel Appliances - A mineral oil base cleaner which you can purchase at
hardware stores or commercial cleaning stores (Zep, Metal Wax or Magic, are good
products.) or WD-40, (spray it on buff it off with a soft cotton rag) this works great!
Creams never work, they only smear
CLR or Lime Away for lime, calcium and rust build up. Great for old tubs, showers or
sinks, DO NOT GET the solution on the faucet!
Wood Floors - Purchase “Restore” Multi Purpose Cleaner and put 1/8th cup into 1
gallon of warm water, wash, then dry, or again, go to your local hardwood floor
company and purchase their hard wood floor cleaner. For wood floors, you should
vacuum them first, and never use an upright vacuum on them as the wheels could easily
scratch, a soft bristled vacuum head is recommended.
Multi Purpose - Restore Multi Purpose, Mr. Clean Concentrate or Lysol in warm water.
For the rags - Anything 100% cotton, the best is micro fiber or a shammy cut up into
washcloth size squares. This material leaves minimal water behind and helps eliminate
spots and streaks.
