The California Board of Registered Nursing has officially approved the Second Degree Accelerated Baccalaureate Nursing Program, and students are actively enrolled in our first two learning teams. A third learning team of 36 will begin study in the fall of 2005. We will be accepting applications for the fall of 2005 up until the application deadline of April 1, 2005. If you have thought about becoming a nurse but didn’t want to spend many years in school, or have had difficulty gaining admission into one of the many impacted nursing programs, this full-time accelerated degree program is designed for you. This BSN program will prepare you to enter the nursing field as a generalist practitioner with the knowledge and skills necessary to practice nursing in any setting. The accelerated BSN program is specifically designed for individuals with degrees in other fields who would now like to enter the nursing profession. This 60-week, full time, fully accredited academic program will prepare you to take the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX) and to apply for a State of California Public Health Certificate. You will learn to accurately assess the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual health status of human beings across various cultural and age groups. Clinical decision making techniques, as well as a variety of other key concepts and applicable skills will be covered, giving you a thorough and well-rounded education in the field of nursing. Program Admission Requirements: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. A degree in any field is acceptable, especially those in the health related areas. Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better. All pre-requisite course grades must be C or higher (a grade of C- will not be accepted). Course work must have been completed within the past 10 years. Take the Critical Thinking Test. Pre-register in the Department of Nursing. There is a $30.00 charge for the test. This test can be taken only once, no matter how many times you apply to the program. A personal interview may be requested of all applicants. Apply to California State University, Long Beach. Apply to the Department of Nursing. This is a separate application procedure from your admission to the University. Application and Acceptance Deadlines: The Nursing program uses a “competitive admissions process” - they will be accepting applications for the fall of 2005, up until the application deadline of April 1, 2005. Once all of the applications have been submitted, they will be reviewed as a group. In early June, letters of acceptance will be mailed out to the appropriate candidates. Students will have 30 days to respond back to the Nursing Department confirming their acceptance into the program. A wait list will also be developed – students placed on the wait list will be notified of their status mid June. If they then become eligible for formal acceptance into the program, the Nursing Department will notify them directly. Graduation Requirements: Complete the CSULB Writing Proficiency Examination (WPE) Complete any prerequisite courses Complete the CORE nursing program.
