Hands-on Pottery Workshop with Emily Reason
This workshop will be structured to suit participants’ needs, so bring your
questions and requests. We’ll focus primarily on wheel skills and address surface
treatment. Forms we’ll explore include cups, pitchers, plates and serving pieces.
Achieving intent and recognizing characteristics of quality will be our goals to develop
good habits and improved skills. One of the greatest benefits of a workshop like this is
the dialogue that we share as we work together. Ongoing discussions about inspiration,
aesthetics, function, education and marketing enrich this experience. Each day we’ll
engage in demonstrations, hands-on time, discussion and reflection over tea or cocktails.
We conclude Friday with a studio tour of the Penland and Marshall areas.
Skill level: Intermediate-Advanced
Workshop fee: $600 includes room and meals. There is an additional charge for clay.
Deposit: $300 reserves your space - due June 26, balance due August 1

Additional Information
Given the short time we have, please understand that you may not be able to take
home fired work.
We’ll have the Wild Acres pottery studio to ourselves however, we’ll be sharing
the dining and housing facilities with other groups. As housing space is limited, I ask
that you share a room with someone else in our group. Each room has a private bath with
linens and towels provided. Rooms may be on upper level floors so please let me know if
you require a floor-level room. The cafeteria serves 3 family-style meals a day. Your
room and meals are included in the workshop fee. Provided meals begin at dinner
Monday and end with breakfast Friday.
Wild Acres is situated in a truly unique and beautiful location, about an hour
north east of Asheville, NC. If you’re traveling from out of the area, I encourage you to
stay the weekend following our workshop to take in the scenery, craft and culinary
delights western North Carolina has to offer. I will provide a list of places to visit, eat
and stay.
Please visit www.WildAcres.org for FAQ’s, location and further information. I
share their philosophy in preserving an educational and retreat-like experience.
