Monday – Classification of Matter notes, Worksheet
 Notes: Types of matter (states of matter (solid, liquid, gas), pure (element, compound) vs
mixture (solution, colloid, suspension))
 Hand out classification worksheet and begin in class
Tuesday – Classification of Matter notes
 Notes: Intensive properties vs Extensive properties; Chemical properties vs Physical
properties
 Work together on classification worksheet
Wednesday – Poster voting, Qualitative vs Quantitative notes, Worksheet
 Poster voting for part of the day
 Short section of notes defining qualitative versus quantitative
 Hand out “Name that Substance” worksheet and begin working on it in class
Thursday – Density Lab II: Quantitative DAY ONE
 Discuss volume calculations (l x w x h) and volume displacement as they relate to density
 Review how to read the triple beam balance
 Archimedes legend discussion and demonstration of Archimedes tub
 Begin lab, focusing on the qualitative descriptions, mass (using triple beam balance) and
volume calculations (using math or the Archimedes tub)
Friday – Density Lab II: Quantitative DAY TWO

 Finish up lab (volume of two mystery liquids) and begin density calculations in class
