JOURNALISM SCHOLARSHIP
2012-2013 Scholarship Application
Each year, The News-Enterprise awards a $1,000 scholarship to one graduating senior at
each high school/school district listed below. The applicant must have successfully
completed a qualifying curriculum within one of the schools/districts listed below, and upon
graduation, plans to pursue a degree and career in journalism or mass communications.
The following criteria are established for this scholarship:



The applicant must present a clear financial need for the scholarship.
The applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of not less than 2.5 upon
graduation.
The applicant must complete a 250 - 350 word essay on the theme “How I intend
to use my future degree in Journalism/Mass Communications to serve my
community.” Essays submitted on other topics or themes will not be accepted for



scholarship consideration.
In addition to the essay, the applicant must present documentation on activities that
clearly show their community involvement.
The applicant must enroll as a full-time student in a college or university following
their graduation from high school.
The applicant must pursue a degree and career in journalism or communications.
