‘ Due to serious illness amongst our Group Committee, I will
be needing occasional volunteers‘
New Society Website I spent last Sunday afternoon on a remote link up with our webmaster going over
the final details before the launch of our new website. Angela has kindly offered to take me to Mobberley
next Sunday so that Alan and I can demonstrate the site to our Main Executive Committee. Then the
following Sunday I will be demonstrating to full Committee, Alan can’t be there because he is flying to Milan
on business that day. More about this later, but we will have paypal integration to purchase from our shop
online and to pay for membership. We are also moving forward towards hosting many more facilities for our
members online.
*Tameside Local Studies and Archives Library opened again on the 6th January and I am
very pleased with the result. I thought it would be a disaster but everything has b een very well
organised, and very little has been lost.

are pleased to announce the release of over 304,000 UK records and over 884,000 new Irish newspaper
articles as part of this week’s Findmypast Friday. This week’s new UK additions include new birth, marriage
and death records from the Channel Islands and Isle of Man. The latest update to our collection of historic
Irish newspapers has seen 9 new titles added as well…

The weeks Findmypast Friday marks the release of over 1,776,000 UK parish records from the historic
county of Nottinghamshire, over 1,500 detailed monumental inscriptions from Norfolk and a fascinating index
of newspapers notices from Eastbourne in Sussex. UK Parish Records Nottinghamshire baptisms 1538 1980 contain over 847,000 records listing the details of individuals who were baptised during the 442 year
period

Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness (RAOGK) – the following is from their new website:

RAOGK is a global volunteer organization. Our volunteers take time to do everything from looking up
courthouse records to taking pictures of tombstones. All they ask in return is reimbursement for their
expenses (never their time) and a thank you.
At one time there were thousands of volunteers in every U.S. state and many international locations, and
helped thousands of researchers. We are trying to rebuild the RAOGK site. It will take a little more time
to get it back to its former glory. So Please spread the word and volunteer to help others!as an act of

Groups and then Tameside. Meetings are held in the Old Chapel schoolrooms, Old Road, Dukinfield, on the
second Wednesday of each month (except August), starting at 7.00 pm. £2.00 for members and £2.50 for non
members, tea and coffee on arrival.
