Anticipatory Set: (Universal Generalization) (Hook) Jobs help us meet our needs.
Topics/Concepts:
Ask students, “What are some jobs that you are responsible for at home?” and/or
“What are some jobs that people do every day such as your mom, dad or people in
your community?” “What is the reason for each of those jobs?”
Allow students plenty of time to turn and talk throughout the discussion. Have students
share ideas with the whole group to build a collective understanding of the purpose of
jobs.

Relate jobs from the book to classroom jobs.
Guided Practice: (Line)
Create a classroom list of jobs we have in the classroom. Teacher records responses on
a chart. Students will turn and talk throughout lesson to share ideas.
Independent Practice: (Sinker)
Students will illustrate and label their favorite classroom job.
Modifications/Extensions:
Provide additional assistance as needed for students who are unable to label their
illustrated job. The teacher will check for understanding and write a description on the
back of the child’s paper if needed.
Closure:
Review vocabulary and jobs related to the lesson.
The students will share with a partner about what they learned about classroom jobs.
