Red River Regional Cattle Health Regulations/ Consignment Rules Committee Members: Dale Bell, Beverly Fleitman, Aaron Fleitman, Keith Colteryahx INTRODUCTION & PURPOSE This contest is sponsored by the Cooke County Beef Cattle Improvement Association for the purpose of supporting youth beef education and promoting beef best management practices. It is not connected with any other contest or show. This is a commercial sale for Cooke County. Animals that are selected for the competition should be representative of top commercial breeding heifers regardless. All traditional beef breeds and crosses are acceptable. Cattle should not be of dairy or longhorn origin. GENERAL RULES 1. Contest participants should be member of any Texas 4-H or FFA club. a. Exhibitors must meet all eligibility requirements at time of show set forth by the Texas Education Agency and their respective School Districts. b. Failure to meet eligibility requirements at the time of the contest will result in forfeiture of fees, expenses, and the right to sell heifers. 2. An entry in the contest will be a pen of two matched replacement heifers (open or bred), a completed record book, a completed industry test, and an interview. 3. Each participant may enter only one pen of heifers. 4. All entries will be offered for sale at the Red River Regional Beef Replacement Sale. Six percent (6%) commission will be charged per female. 5. Each exhibitor must enter and validate at least two heifers. a. Exhibitors may validate up to four head, but only one pen of two heifers will be allowed to compete. b. Heifers may not be added or switched after validation. c. Exhibitors will have the option of selling additional, validated heifers during the normal course of the Red River Regional Beef Replacement Sale. 6. Each exhibitor will furnish individual health papers stating pregnancy status and bangs on each animal accepted. 7. All heifers must be dehorned (with time to heal prior to sale), or naturally polled. 8. While no clipping is required; heifers may have face and poll trimmed. Fitting is not permitted. 9. Each animal must be vaccinated with IBR, PI3, BVD. 10. All cattle must be boosted with IBR, PI3, BRSV, BVD – within 30 days of sale 11. All females 18 months of age, or older, must be brucellosis tested. 12. Heifers will be released following the completion of the sale by the contest and sale committee. 13. The Cooke County Beef Cattle Improvement Association acts as an agent only for the exhibitors. All guarantees are between buyers and sellers. 14. All heifers entered in this program and sold become property of the buyer and will remain sold. 15. There will be no harassment of the judges, or other officials, prior to, during, or after the show. 16. This program is designed to be educational and beneficial to the youth participating. Any parent or exhibitor who does not adhere to the rules pertaining to the commercial heifer show may be banned from participation in future contests or sales. 17. In the event that an exhibitor’s heifer(s) loses an official Cooke County Commercial Breeding Heifer Contest ear tag, it is the responsibility of the exhibitor to notify the contest committee so the heifer may be re-tagged. Failure to do so may result in disqualification. 18. Heifers must be in exhibitor’s possession by validation date. 19. All cattle in this sale must be of U.S origin. OPEN HEIFERS Open heifers may not be older than 20 months at time of sale. They must be weaned a minimum of 30 days prior to sale. BRED HEIFERS Bred heifers may be no older than 32 months. Committee has the right to check teeth. Bred heifers must be palpated at least 60 days pregnant at time of health papers. RECORD BOOK / TEST / INTERVIEW 1. Exhibitors are required to submit a record book for competition using the Cooke County Youth Commercial Breeding Heifer Contest record book guidelines. 2. Exhibitors are required to participate in a project testing and interview process. 3. Junior and Senior level categories will apply based on Texas 4-H age requirements. FEES 1. Entry/Validation fee will be $15/per animal validated. 2. Six percent (6%) commission will be charged per female sold at RRR. DATES of INTEREST 1. Entries are due at validation. They are highly encouraged to be submitted by June 17, 2014. 2. Validation will be June 19, 2015 at 9am at Schumacher Brothers Barn in Era, TX. You may validate from June 19 till June 27. You will need to notify Beverly Fleitman to arrange for a different date. (940-727-8053) 3. Pens of heifers are to be delivered for the contest on Friday, October 23, 2015 to the Cooke County Fairgrounds. Delivery time will be between 8:00 and 9:00 A.M. 4. Record books are due with delivery of heifers. 5. Interviews and test will be conducted Friday, October 23, beginning at 10 A.M. at the Cooke County Fairgrounds. 6. Pens of heifers will be judged on Friday, October 23, 2015. 7. Sale will be held Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 12:30 P.M. Awards ceremony will be held prior to the sale. JUDGING 1. Entries will be judge based on 4 categories: Cattle, Record Book, Test, and Interview. 2. 3. 4. 5. Cattle will be judged based on quality, uniformity, and disposition. Record books will be judged based on accuracy, content, and economic practicality. Test will be judged based on percentage of correct answers. Interview will be judged based on poise, knowledge, and reasoning. AWARDS 1. Jackets will be awarded to the following category winners: Best Pen of Heifers, Overall Junior Division Winner*, Overall Senior Division Winner*. 2. Premiums will be set according to money available. Premiums will be divided among the following divisions based on number of entries per category and placing: Best pen of heifers, Best Record book Junior and Senior, Best Interview Junior and Senior, Best test score Junior and Senior. 3. After validation, but prior to delivery of animals for competition contestants will be notified of premiums to be awarded by category. 4. Entry fees, premiums added by the Cooke County Beef Cattle Improvement Association, and all other premiums attained will constitute total money available. Overall Division Winner refers to cumulative score of cattle, record book, test, and interview. The commercial breeding heifer committee reserves the right to amend these rules. All mandatory fees will be charged - i.e: beef promotion, brand inspection, etc. for each animal. Hay available at cost; no yardage fee.
