control of critical situations; assist in securing rig for cyclones,
rig moves or emergencies as directed; participate in fire drills;
and demonstrate safe working procedures.
This standard covers the assistance provided to control
emergencies, critical situations and the maintenance of rig
safety by a leasehand/roustabout.

code) for personal, product, workplace health, safety, and environmental matters,
and the obligations required under current law including: the Health and Safety in
Employment (HSE) Act 1992; HSE Regulations 1995; HSE (Mining Administration)
Regulations 1996; Health and Safety in Employment (Petroleum Exploration and
Extraction) Regulations 1999; Resource Management Act 1991; Conservation Act
1987; Environment Act 1986; Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO)
Act 1996; HSNO (Personnel Qualifications) Regulations 2001; and their subsequent
amendments.

Definitions
Codes of Practice refer to any issued code of practice approved by the Minister of
Labour under Section 20 of the Health and Safety in Employment (HSE) Act 1992
and any work carried out in accordance with that code.
Cyclones refer to high winds that cause de-sanding and de-silting.
Duty of care means taking all practicable steps to protect the health and safety of
others in the workplace as required by the Health and Safety in Employment Act
1992.
Emergency duties mean procedures to address events that may arise from natural,
environmental, physical or personal unforeseen occurrences.
Standards refer to any New Zealand or Australian Standards that provide technical
guidance and specifications. Standards may also be specified in Regulations.

This unit standard, unit standard 22456, and unit standard
23171 were replaced by unit standard 28311.
This standard replaced unit standard 11162 and unit
standard 11166.
This unit standard is expiring. Assessment against the standard must take place by
the last date for assessment set out below.

Please note
Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA,
before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses
of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.
