Provide education and support for Kimberley health service providers to improve their knowledge and skills for peritoneal dialysis and haemodialysis 2. Provide education and support for Kimberley health service providers to improve their knowledge and skills for peritoneal dialysis and haemodialysis Develop new, and modify current, educational tools that assist Kimberley health service providers to manage and support patients on peritoneal dialysis and haemodialysis Contribute to the provision of regular renal education programs and in-service programs for local and regional health care providers Contribute to the education of Aboriginal Health Workers through the KAMSC Health School as required Act as a clinical resource to support, mentor and develop other members of the multidisciplinary health team, including health trainees Encourage the uptake of the renal protocols and manuals by health professionals throughout the Kimberley Provide the supportive network link between the Kimberley health services and the company holding the WA home therapies contract (Fresenius Medical Care currently) Ensure all Kimberley health services have access to the remote area manuals (paper based and/or electronic) and regional renal protocols 2. Develop and implement a sustainable training program for local and regional staff Work with key stake holders to develop an in-service program for regional health staff working in with the Kimberley Renal Services Plan and implement regular workshops for regional and local staff Liaise with the pre dialysis coordinators and the PD/HHD coordinators to ensure local and regional health service providers receive timely, effective, and culturally appropriate education 3. Contribute to the ongoing development and consolidation of the Kimberley Renal Support Service Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the Kimberley Renal Support Services program as a whole, assisting where necessary to ensure responsive and appropriate services are provided Home Therapies Support Nurse July 2011 2 Promote the values, mission and goals of the KRSS and KRS and constantly work towards their achievement Assist in the development and annual review of policies and procedures for the KRSS home therapies support position as required Assist with the orientation of new staff Support management to promote cost effectiveness practices Participate in ongoing professional development programs to maintain and improve service related skills and knowledge Comply with relevant legislation, including Equal Employment Opportunity, Disability Services and Occupational Health and Safety legislation, as well as professional standards and award provisions Be available to meet annually with manager to carry out performance appraisal Monitor self progress against workforce development plan 4. Participate in the development and ongoing review of peritoneal dialysis and haemodialysis regional renal protocols In consultation with key stakeholders ensure the education program is in line with accreditation, CQI and OSH practices to ensure staff meet the required competencies and work in accordance with the unit’s policies, procedures and guidelines. In consultation with key stakeholders and Kimberley health services continue to develop, utilise, promote and evaluate the PD remote area manual and ensure its ongoing review In consultation with key stakeholders and Kimberley health services ensure the development, implementation and evaluation of the HHD manual Provide technical advice/assistance to support the ongoing process of development and review of regional renal best practice guidelines and protocols Maintain up to date renal knowledge in order to sustain best practice renal standards Selection Criteria Essential: Eligible for registration with the WA Nurses Board Experienced Registered Nurse with a minimum 3 years experience in the renal field Advanced renal clinical skills, knowledge and experience and the ability to deliver education programs / clinical instruction. Commitment to the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control Well developed interpersonal communication and organisational skills Ability to work as an effective team member and role model. Our major role is in advocacy and support for our ACCHS members, in addition to KAMSC being directly responsible for the provision of comprehensive primary health care in 5 remote Aboriginal community clinics at Balgo, Billiluna, Mulan, Beagle Bay and Bidyadanga. Our member ACCHS are based in Kununurra (OVAHS – Ord Valley Aboriginal Health Service), Halls Creek (YYMS – Yura Yungi Medical Service), Derby (DAHS – Derby Aboriginal Health Service) and Broome (BRAMSBroome Regional Aboriginal Medical Service). The KAMSC Centre for Aboriginal Primary Health Care Training Education and Research provides a model of integrated health education, incorporating accredited training for medical undergraduates and postgraduates, pharmacy trainees and Aboriginal Health Worker trainees through to Advanced Diploma level. KAMSC is also responsible for the development and management of Renal Services for the Kimberley, including satellite dialysis services and support and coordination of local primary health care services in the provision of renal education and prevention, early detection and better management of established kidney disease and coordination of care for those in advanced stages of kidney disease. The KAMSC regional collective of ACCHS is a major employer in the Kimberley, with Aboriginal people representing more than 70% of its 300+ strong workforce.
