Press release Aiming High: Oversized Sculptures at an Altitude of 2,000 Meters at “Art on the Mountain” in Zell am SeeKaprun New nature experience on the Schmittenhöhe: “4 Lakes Art Hike” and relaxation with a view at “Yoga on the Mountain” Zell am See-Kaprun, 29 May 2013 – The impressive open-air art site on the local mountain of Zell, the Schmittenhöhe in Zell am See-Kaprun in the Salzburger Land, measures 18 hectare. Starting this summer outdoor enthusiasts have the opportunity to combine the pleasure of hiking and art in the new “4 Lakes Art Hike”. 26 oversized sculptures at an altitude of 2,000 meters merge in the region to be one of Europe’s biggest open-air art sites. In five international art symposia numerous international artists have gathered together in the region since 1995 to realize the extraordinary objects on the ground. In summer the permanent exhibits are themed “Art on the Mountain”, in winter they become a unique “Gallery on the Slope” in the snow. The harmonious and sustainable embedment of the mostly wooden sculptures in the Alpine surroundings was always of top priority during the origination. With “Yoga on the Mountain”, a trained yoga instructor will arrange for relaxation on the mountain in six sessions on the Schmittenhöhe in July and August 2013 when fresh mountain air and an extensive panoramic view generate new energy while, at the same time, effecting deep relaxation. The mountain as an open-air art area Enjoy mountain air and discover art: during the new four-and-a-half-hour “4 Lakes Art Hike“ hiking in Zell am See-Kaprun becomes a cultural experience. Starting in the valley Schmittental at an altitude of 940 meters, the trail runs past 26 different sculptures to the summit of the Schmittenhöhe at 2,000 meters. Downhill participants interested in art pass not only impressive, nature-embedded objects but also hike past three idyllic lake reservoirs. On top of that the tour offers outdoor enthusiasts a firstclass view to Lake Zell. Information boards on the entire track explain the particularities of the exhibits and give some insight in the thoughts of the artist – from the idea to the realization. The sculptures of “Art on the Mountain” are mainly supposed to contribute to raising awareness of nature. The ascend to the Schmittenhöhe is free of charge with the Zell am See-Kaprun summer ticket from May to October. Holiday-makers receive the ticket at their arrival from the roughly 220 collaborating partners in the region Zell am See-Kaprun. “Stoanerne Frauen and Manderlait” In 2012 three artists met in the art symposium “Mountain Air” in order to realize their art work on the Schmittenhöhe within two weeks. One of them, sculptor Erika Inger from South Tyrol, focused on Alpine tradition – consistent with the region and the surroundings. The art work “Stoanerne Frauen and Manderlait”, translated “Stony Women and Men”, consists of stone columns placed on top of another, which are embedded in a plateau stretching over an expanse of just under 25 meters. The artist is distinguished by art work close to nature, which she integrates harmonically in the Press release landscape while still setting it apart by stringent sorted structures. “Stoanerne Frauen and Manderlait” is located near the Sonnkogel mountain station at roughly 1,850 meters and can be experienced during the “4 Lakes Art Hike”. Yoga on the mountain with a view to 30 three-thousand meter peeks Apart from art lovers yoga enthusiasts, too, can experience the view to the roughly 30 three-thousand-meter peaks in the surrounding mountains at “Yoga on the mountain”. Not far from the summit of the Schmittenhöhe the trained yoga instructor Erica Zehentner demonstrates beginners and advanced participants exercises to relax on 20, 24 and 27 July 2013 as well as on 3, 7 and 28 August 2013. Participants meet at 8.15 am at the valley station of the Schmittenhöhe cable car, where they receive yoga mats and blankets. The ascend with the Porsche Design cable car already gives a first impression of the impressive view. The two-hour yoga session is included in the cable car ticket.
