DESCRIPTION
BUCKPLUS is a spermagenic sexing agent specifically formulated for artificial insemination of deer.
Each vial contains an amount of lyophilized BUCKPLUS necessary to sex a specific volume of
semen. The agent is activated by the addition of semen + extender directly to the vial. After a short
incubation, the semen is ready for artificial insemination.
MODE OF ACTION
BUCKPLUS works by enhancing the fertility of the Y-chromosome bearing (male) sperm while
reducing the fertility of the X-chromosome bearing (female) sperm. When inseminated at or near
ovulation, most ova are fertilized by the Y-chromosome bearing (male) sperm. The MALE SEX
RATIO is increased by 20-30% (Ave. 75%) and conception is boosted 5-25%.


Collect fresh semen and dilute 1:1 with a suitable deer semen extender.
Determine semen parameters. Note: It is necessary to assess semen parameters
before mixing with BUCKPLUS.
Extend semen to 50 million live sperm per ml. See TABLE 1.
Equilibrate extended semen to 95-98.6oF (35-37oC).
Warm the BUCKPLUS vial to 95-98.6oF (35-37oC) for 2 minutes.
Add 1.0 ml of extended semen directly to the BUCKPLUS vial. Reseal and gently mix.
IMPORTANT: Incubate the semen + BUCKPLUS in a water bath or incubator for 15
minutes at 95-98.6oF (35-37o) prior to insemination. Do not exceed 60 minutes.
Load insemination pipette and inseminate as usual.
Warm the BUCKPLUS vial to 95-98.6oF (35-37oC) for 2 minutes.
Thaw semen as usual.
Add a total of 1.0 ml of frozen thawed semen directly to the BUCKPLUS vial.
Reseal the vial and gently mix.
IMPORTANT: Incubate the semen + BUCKPLUS in a water bath or incubator for 15
minutes at 95-98.6oF (35-37o) prior to insemination. Do not exceed 60 minutes.
Load insemination pipette and inseminate as usual.

For LAP insemination, incubate in the vial and withdraw
separate doses as needed.
TIMING OF INSEMINATION
Variations in synchronization protocols, superovulation regimens and species differences will give rise
to variations in the time of onset of heat and time of ovulation. These variances are important when
using fixed-time breeding.
For fixed-timed inseminations, please consult the following recommendations. Please note: The
following guidelines for fixed-time AI may need adjustment according to Cervine breed, species, or
breeding protocol. Please consult the inseminator or local veterinarian. In general, apply
BUCKPLUS at or near the time of ovulation (24 hours after onset of heat).
