It is my pleasure to recommend Dr. Holly Atkinson as a guest speaker. We have had the privilege
of hosting Dr. Atkinson on four occasions in Roanoke, Virginia for our Women's Health University
series, and we will definitely invite her back again.
From my initial contact with her, Dr. Atkinson was a pleasure to work with. She provided me with
complete details regarding her presentation, and was very flexible about editing the content.
Her presentations have always exceeded our expectations, as she has presented the following
topics for us: Breast Health, Digestive Health, Endocrine Health, and Hand and Foot Health. She
does an outstanding job of making complex medical conditions easy to understand, and as an
added bonus, uses her fabulous sense of humor while presenting this complex information!

On behalf of the Maine Health Access Foundation I’m pleased to provide a letter of
recommendation of Dr. Holly Atkinson who served as our keynote speaker for the Foundation’s
2008 Annual Meeting. As a statewide health care philanthropy focused on expanding access to
comprehensive, high quality, affordable care, the Maine Health Access Foundation is a leader
in promoting thoughtful and provocative ideas to Maine’s public policy arena to inform and
advance health reform and universal access.
Once we selected Dr. Atkinson as our keynote speaker, she spent considerable time planning
the specific focus of her keynote address. Her preparation included researching the Foundation
and exploring out current strategic priority areas so her remarks could reflect an appropriate
understanding of our mission and goals. It was clear that once we selected her topic,
“Achieving Optimal Health” that Dr. Atkinson framed a targeted and carefully researched
speech that took the most current science and contextualized her remarks with illustrations
drawn from anthropology, social sciences, philosophy, and contemporaneous culture. The result
was a keynote that was provocative, insightful and powerful. It was clear from the response to
her speech that she was right on message. The questions from the audience and the feedback
we received following this event were uniformly laudatory. Even now, many people still refer to
her speech and not how her remarks enhanced their awareness of important issues in achieving
optimal health.
Dr. Atkinson is an excellent speaker, and I recommend her most highly for any group seeking a
provocative, insightful and highly informed speaker. Her engagement with our foundation was
the perfect synergy of scientific expertise, broad vision and future thinking. We would welcome
her back to Maine to interact with key leader from across the state at any time.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Atkinson on behalf of the Lehigh Valley Women’s
Cancer Center for the inspiring and educational presentation given at our Celebration of Life
event in September 2008.
Her dedication as a medical journalist and advocate of human rights in striving for excellent
patient care while being compassionate in our course of continuous learning, training, and
research was most encouraging.
Our cancer patients, physicians and nursing staff express their gratitude. Her insight offered a
