Ontario's Youth Suicide Prevention Plan
Community Mobilization Forums
Ontario’s recently announced three year youth suicide prevention plan supports and
strengthens local efforts in communities across the province. Funding is being made
available in 2013-2014 to ministry funded agencies that focus on child and youth mental
health to build on existing local initiatives to better identify and respond to young people
in crisis.
The Ministry of Children and Youth Services (MCYS), in partnership with the Canadian
Mental Health Association (Ontario Region) and the Ontario Centre of Excellence for Child
and Youth Mental Health, invite you to attend the first annual community mobilization
regional forums.
About the Community Mobilization Forums...
The purpose of the Community Mobilization Forums is:

to bring together professionals from across child and youth serving sectors
with diverse experience and expertise, including those individuals with livedexperience to support enhanced cross sector mobilization on youth suicide
prevention, risk management and postvention;

to support sharing knowledge and exchange of resources;

to continue to build on previous work in this area, including conversations
with experts and those with lived experience; and,

to recognize and build on existing momentum across sectors and
communities where youth suicide prevention/risk management/postevention
initiatives have been implemented.
We are extending an invitation, for your organization to join us at one of the forums.
Meeting Details:






The community mobilization forums will be held in March 2014.
Five forums will be held across the province.
The forums are being planned for 9:30am to 4:00pm
A continental breakfast, lunch and light refreshments will be served.
Attendees are required to cover travel, other meal or hospitality expenses.
Bilingual support will be made available to facilitate discussions in both French and
English.
Please follow the guidelines listed below regarding the number of forum attendees from
each sector.

Agencies are invited to select one representative
to attend the location closest to your professional
network and community.
School Boards
Local Health Integration Networks (LHIN)
Ontario Association of Children's Aid Society
(OACAS)
Superintendents are invited to select one mental
health leader (e.g. Chief Psychologists, Chief
Social Workers, Mental Health Leads) within their
board to attend the location closest to their
professional network and community.
LHIN representatives are invited to select four
leaders of mental health services within the area
covered by their Local Health Integration Network
to attend the location closest to their professional
network and community.
OACAS is invited to select two Children's Aid Society
(CAS) representatives attend the location closest to
their professional network and community.
We kindly ask that you confirm your attendance and select the location closest to your
professional network in your community.
