Work Instruction WI0011 Preparation of Amine-Functionalized Glass Slides Rev: D 1. Materials 1.1. Name: WI0003, Preparation of Piranha-Washed Glass Slides 1.2. Name: No. 1 cover glass, 43mm X 50 mm 1.2.1. Manufacturer: Electron Microscopy Sciences 1.2.2. Catalog: 3329 1.3. Name: 3-Aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) 1.3.1. Manufacturer: Sigma 1.3.2. Catalog: A-3648 1.4. Name: Toluene 1.4.1. Manufacturer: Sigma-Aldrich 1.4.2. Catalog: 244511 1.5. Name: Absolute Ethanol 1.5.1. Manufacturer: Aaper 2. Procedure 2.1. Piranha wash the glass slide (WI0003). 2.2. Make a solution 5% by volume APTES in toluene. Pour enough to fully immerse slide. 2.3. Immerse slide and incubate for 1 hr at room temperature. 2.4. Rinse under 100% ethanol to remove all residual toluene and APTES. 2.5. Rinse under DI water. 2.6. Blow dry. 2.7. Cure on a hot plate at the highest setting for 1 hr. If the hot plate temperature can be set, set to 160 ºC. Use a piece of glass beneath so that the slide does not come in contact with the dirty hotplate. 2.8. The slide can be stored at this point. Clean immediately before use to rinse off residual, unlinked APTES. 2.9. Rise with 100% ethanol. 2.10. Rinse with DI water. 2.11. Blow dry. 3. References 3.1. Howarter, J.A. and J.P.
