Role Profile - Professor Job Title: Professor of Nursing Generic Post Title: Professor (Chair) Reporting to: Head of Department/Executive Dean and Pro Vice-Chancellor School: School of Health & Life Sciences Main Purpose of the Role: Contribute to the strategic academic development of the University by providing leadership for the development and delivery of Learning and Teaching, Research and Knowledge Transfer/Income Generation and/or Administration/Management and/or Community Engagement/ Outreach in the School and the University more broadly and to provide strategic academic leadership to our successful and highly committed Nursing team in delivering excellence in learning teaching and research at GCU. The responsibilities for this position will be varied and include some or all of the following: To provide strategic academic leadership for the development and delivery of the nursing and inter-professional learning and teaching portfolio ensuring excellence and compliance with quality assurance practices within the University and externally To undertake horizon scanning to ensure GCU is a leader for providing contemporary, evidence based Nursing and inter-professional education To ensure Nursing strategically aligns to the Department and School priorities and objectives specifically in relation to student recruitment, retention, progression and to enhance the overall student experience To contribute specialist expertise and authority to the School’s learning, teaching and research profile in one or more of our core areas of excellence To contribute to the delivery of learning and teaching and student supervision for undergraduate, postgraduate and professional development levels in your core areas of subject expertise To enhance teaching and research linkages across the department and school To contribute a high quality, internationally leading and ideally externally-funded program of research in one of the school’s core areas of research excellence To develop partnerships and key stakeholder relationships To coordinate and lead accreditation events with appropriate professional bodies To have a good understanding of the current issues and demands facing providers of Higher Education to allied health professionals and have the ability to develop new ways of working to solve complex problems and effect change To undertake relevant regulatory and professional body activity To have the ability to motivate others and provide support to junior members of the team, including identifying staff development opportunities, mentoring and supporting junior staff Contribute to income generation, commercial and outreach activities within the Department/School Summary of Activity: Professorial generic criteria: There are four main role responsibilities and requirements for a Professorial role: To act as a stimulus for: professional standing in the appropriate field of activity, academic and general leadership, development of scholarly activity, contribution to the achievement of the strategic objectives of the University and education in general A Professor must also be able to demonstrate an outstanding contribution in at least two of the areas provided below, one of which must be Research or Learning and Teaching. 1. Doctorate Application Membership of HEA or teaching qualification.
