SELECTED RESEARCH PROJECTS
State of the Art Model Development – Development of a new activity-based model for TelAviv, Israel. Developed the first implementation of a tour-based model system in the U.S.
for the city of Boise, Idaho. Assisted to develop the first implementation of an activity based
model system for Metro of Portland, Oregon.
Transportation and Air Quality Research - Extensive research in this area include a
research work on air quality trends in the U.S. and their relationships to transportation
conducted for the Volpe National Transportation System and a NCHRP project titled
“Quantifying Air Quality and Other Benefits and Costs of Transportation Control Measures“
Travel Model Improvement Program - Participated in preparing the program reports on
“Short Term Travel Model Improvements”, and “The Effect of Land Use and Travel Demand
Management Strategies on Commuting Behavior”; the design of the course “Advance Travel
Demand Forecasting”; and the new “Travel Survey Manual”.
Framing the Impact of Information Communication Technologies on Travel Behavior
and Social Changes – Principal investigator on a research funded by the Israel Science
Foundation with the objective to better understand the impact of Information Communication
Technologies on travel behavior and social changes including theoretical development and
empirical experiments.
SELECTED PROFESSIONAL PROJECTS
Toll Diversion Modeling Project Manager for the Moscoso Toll Bridge Project, San Juan,
Puerto Rico. Work included a pricing experiment and the design of a revealed preference,
stated preference and toll diversion model estimation, which can assist the Autopista de
Puerto Rico to find ways to maximize revenues from the bridge. Responsible also for the toll
diversion model for the E-470 in Denver, Colorado.

Travel Demand Model Development Principle Responsible and Project Manager for major
model development projects including: a statewide travel demand model for Indiana; a
regional model for Washington County, Rhode Island; and a nested mode choice model for
the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG, Los Angeles) and for
Philadelphia.
Market Research: 1. Transit. Responsible for various market research studies for transit
authorities including discrete choice and advanced simultaneous equations modeling
considering peoples’ attitude towards travel. Studies include the California Bay Area ferry
services, The Long Island Sound ferry services (between Connecticut, Long Island and
Manhattan, and the Salt Lake City, Utah area. 2. Investment Responsible for developing a
discrete choice model representing the household's decisions regarding new investment in
response to direct mail. The model has been used to select household for direct mail in order
to lower mailing cost and improve response rate by a major investment firm. 3.
Telecommunication Responsible for developing a series of nested discrete choice models
representing the household's decisions regarding the type of Personal Communication
Services to purchase. The model is used to determine an optimal pricing and product design
strategy by a major telecommunication firm.
Model development for specific applications: Project manager for the demand analysis of a
new subway line on Second Ave. in Manhattan, New York; Responsible for economic
evaluation of alternatives for the Road System Master plan of the city of Jerusalem, Israel;
and responsible for the traffic flow analysis in support of the Supplemental Environmental
Impact Statement for the Central Artery/Third Harbor Tunnel project in Boston. Other
projects include developing methods to model the effectiveness of various transportation
control measures and the transportation impacts of land use changes in Madison, Indiana, and
Rhode Island.
Traffic Engineering Managed traffic signal system projects including a traffic signal study
conducted for the Israeli Police Force. Responsible for planning, coordinating and preparing
working plans for major intersections in Israel. Also acquired experience in street and
highway projects.
Review of Travel Demand Models - Reviewer of the travel demands model used to support
the development of the Jerusalem light rail and the travel demand models used to support the
development of the Tel Aviv rapid transit system. Member of the steering committee of a
project to conduct a second opinion for the cost benefit analysis of the Tel Aviv Metro
proposed system. Chair of the Peer Review Panel to analyze the 520 (Seattle, WA) Tolling
Scenarios and Traffic Model.
