Each quiz will consist of a combination of multiple-choice questions, true/false statements and/or short essays, on topics related to course curriculum. Team Case Analysis: Tanglewood Stores (comprises 25% of grade) Participants will form groups of five or less, and each group will conduct an indepth analysis of the case in a few chosen areas of recruitment and selection processes (a different chapter for each group). In doing so, they will first need to gain an understanding of the basic concepts, models, principles and practices discussed specifically in relevant chapters. As consultants to Tanglewood Stores, they will receive a brief description of the situation relevant to that chapter, along with tasks that require them to discuss and critically analyze the situation by applying materials directly from the chapter. They will use all relevant data provided in the case on recruitment and selection practices of Tanglewood Stores while applying the knowledge and skills gained in the class. Each group will be allotted one chapter from amongst the chapters 3, 5 & 9. The outcome of the group paper should provide a better understanding of the staffing practices of the firm and the broad issues relevant to management of recruitment and selection processes in general. The group will then make a formal presentation of the analysis in the class, with each member of the group getting an opportunity to deal with a section of the presentation. The total time allotted for each group will not exceed thirty minutes. Please practice prior to the presentation so that you will be able to finish the presentation within the given time limit. Each group will also submit a paper. All references must be specified on a separate page. We will also utilize electronic submission for the paper and the powerpoints. Recruitment, Selection and Placement Summer 2011 2 The instructor will evaluate the paper and presentation of each group using predetermined criteria that include presentation quality (introduction, style, structure, preparation, and visual aids) and contents specified above.
