UW Lifesaving Early Closure
 Email thread being discussed
 Harvey called today – due to drought they are unable to get their
boat out


o Only will be used if it is a true emergency
o Made it sound that their boats will be lifted out within the
next 2 weeks
Want to make sailing available for the members
o Piers coming out hopefully by October 26th – 29th
Options?
o There will be people still working in the tower
 Potentially able to work out boat
o Pay people on our staff to talk to the lifesaving tower and
operate boat
 Only needed for a week and a half
 Other instructors are potentially interested in taking this
potition
 Even with an instructor on our 16’ whaler – still
unable to lift a scow or sloop
 Only could work with techs, lasers, and
420s
 Lifesaving dredged in November – hopefully
wont be a permament issue
o How does this work safety wise?
 Potentially is this continues to be an issue maintain high
safety level
o Questions/comments
 JJ: only for a week and a half – just hire instructors for
a little bit of time to help out
 only thing we cant right are sloops
 Potentially limit sloops for the last week and a half



Neil: Lifesaving take our boat? Maybe communicate
with us?
Nick: Worth paying someone solely to watch lake? Not
that many sailors
 JJ: only should have this guy be watching for
safety
 Doug: could potentially serve as a ferrier
 Matt D.: potentially restricted hours
 Dave: no we need someone all the time the
lakefront is open – worst case scenario: $120 a
day?
 Peter K.: Maybe limit if there is a lesson?
Doug: Motion that pursuing to lifesaving closing
due to low water levels that Hoofers provides one
qualified instructor to monitor lake front safety
excluding sloop sailing until the lakefront closes
for the year

 Dave will get in touch with life saving

Menus being changed to involve the fact that Friday night socials

 JJ will send out image to Nick to put on the webpage



Prizes will be donated

Lots of drivers – YAY
Friday – staging trailers
o 2-3 people that are fleet certified to help tow and place
trailers



Apparently the keelboaters have a lot of people to help out as well
Lou and JJ made a list of things to update the trailers to make them
100% - basically just electrical issues
o Pump up tires
o Hopefully just 2 hours to fix things
Hopefully pulling out all Js
o Don’t want to chance it with one last J left in the water
 Not worth chancing it
o Dropping masts ASAP
Donations
 Current protocol and benchmarks
 Standardized operating procedure for boat development
 Create process for fleet captains to alleviate potential future
problem
o Suggestions/Questions/Comments
 Dave: doesn’t want to have to filter every donation
offer for us
 Nick: make a clear donation page that gets sent to the






development chair
Paul: at most one page directions (5 step process?)
JJ: Donation chair?
 Has been swallowed up by development chair now
 If we do have a donation chair/develoment – have
emails sent over immediately to them
Nick: what should this chair do when they get these
emails – we need input!
Paul: Sit down one on one with fleet captain to talk out
details
Nick: State of boat – where it fits in fleet – budger
JJ: 1: email goes to donations chair upon reception
 2: donation chair goes to fleet captaion
 3: fleet captain goes to shop/create committee
 4: fleet captain: flush it out or go to the BOC
Dave: Budget constraints/ educational aspect/
turnover/ does it fit within fleet guideline/ fit within fleet
guideline for the next 5-10 years
 Nick: Longterm goals set up by donation chair after
talking to fleet captains
 Peter: Donation chair should respond immediately upon
receiving email – give a response dates
Use ultimate 20 as a guinea pig for the new guidelines


