The purpose of this project is to develop a new observation method for use in
future oceanographic biological survey. The demonstration will be a software
system capable of categorising marine biological species, genera and larger
groups. The project will also develop calibration techniques and standards for
a new class of marine observation method and for its impact on biological
survey, b) to develop training methods for marine scientists and technicians
in the use of this new methodology and to establish sites of competence
within the EU, c) to integrate the data obtained from this methodology into
establishing standard techniques for handling marine data suitable for
programmes such as EuroGOOS and d) to show that the system is robust
and reliable.
