Team Challenge Officer (INVOLVE project)

Scale 6 £22,221 to £26,276 (pro rata)

Responsible to: Initially Director of Policy and Programmes

Location: BVSC, 138 Digbeth, Birmingham, B5 6DR and across the city of

Birmingham

Hours of work: 21 hours per week

This is a new post to BVSC and is part of the INVOLVE project run in partnership with Volunteer Centre Southwark. You will be organising

Team Challenge days for businesses and working with the wider voluntary and community sector to ensure the appropriate projects are sourced. Ensuring that outcomes are successful and measurable for both business and communities. You will also be required to undertake health and safety checks on a range of other BVSC programmes.

Purpose of the Role:

To develop and support Team Challenges across Birmingham, where groups of people from business carry out practical projects.

To meet with community and voluntary organisations to discuss potential projects and ensure Team Challenge supports the organisation.

To ensure projects comply with all health and safety legislation and to undertake health and safety checks on a range of BVSC programmes.

To support the wider development of BVSC's Corporate Social Responsibility

Strategy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To support the development of the INVOLVE project by organising and managing oneoff team challenges from inception to final reporting. This includes sourcing appropriate challenges, liaising with business and voluntary and community representatives, ordering materials and attending and leading groups of volunteers at challenges.

2. Researching and identifying volunteering opportunities suitable for our business partners and working alongside the community and voluntary organisations to develop these opportunities. This will include office based research and site visits. The post holder will also need to carry out appropriate risk assessments, if required training will be given.

3. Undertake monitoring and evaluation of employee volunteering days including report writing for businesses.

4. Maintaining relevant administrative systems and processes, ensuring that ICT is used to its full capacity within the programme, including the use of new media, Internet and email and using technology to reduce paper based working.

5. Operating within the budget constraints of the programme.

6. Ensuring that all duties and responsibilities regarding the project are discharged in accordance with the charities policies including: Safeguarding, Health and Safety and

Equality policies.

7. Working towards specific agreed targets in improving the performance and growth of

Employee Supported Volunteering.

8. To positively contribute to the overall work of BVSC by establishing and sustaining effective teamwork and relationships with stakeholders.

9. As directed the post holder will undertake additional duties as and when required

10. To deputise for colleagues as appropriate

16. To write reports, carry out presentations and undertake administrative duties in connection with the post.

17. To carry out evening and weekend work where required.

18. To undertake any other delegated duties as reasonably requested by the Manager.

Experience:

1. Experience of organising physical / environmental projects.

2. Experience of implementing health and safety legislation.

3. Experience of managing a portfolio of projects

4. Experience of sourcing, planning and implementing projects and ensuring community benefit and impact.

5. Experience of writing reports and analysing data collected on projects.

6. Experience of working with external stakeholders and seeking opportunities to develop new partnerships.

7. Awareness of the roles of the voluntary and community sector in

Birmingham

Skills:

8. Managing a range of projects from inception to completion

9. Good all round team player, cheerful and confident with a can do attitude.

10. Self motivated who can work in a high energy environment.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Terms of employment would be those applicable to BVSC staff. These will be based on a working week of 21 hours with provision for time to be taken off in lieu where extra hours are worked. Holidays are 29 days per annum plus statutory Bank Holidays (pro rata).

BVSC operates a contributory pension scheme, which the person appointed would be eligible to join. Alternatively, if the person appointed has a private pension scheme, BVSC will pass th e equivalent of the employer’s contributions to that private scheme. BVSC operates an active supervision policy.
