Traineeship Staff Support Programme (TSSP)- Partnership led by In Touch
Care – Project Plan
Developing high quality traineeships through employer-led curriculum development
bespoke initial assessments and high quality work placements.
In order to achieve the project objectives identified below and the project outcomes
we have set out a project plan to determine roles, responsibilities and timescales.
Project Objectives



Deliver embedded English and Maths Employability and basic occupational
training
Build capacity and support continued expansions of high quality work
placements for traineeships
Carry out initial assessments and develop bespoke and relevant programmes.
Project Outcomes including the Project Plan to achieve the outcomes.
1. A model for designing occupationally-related initial assessment tools, tested in
three vocational areas; childcare/early years, health and social care and dental
nursing. The measures of its success will be employer satisfaction and traineeship
success rates.
Roles, Responsibilities and Timescales
June 2014 – Outcomes
 All provider partners and their employers have been piloting the initial
assessment tools with their staff and their learners/trainees. All providers
and employers are extremely happy with the initial assessment tool and
are extremely impressed with the in depth report that it achieved following
the initial assessment. All staff and learners feel that the initial assessment
tool is a true reflection on them personally. The employers and the
providers particularly are appreciative of the action plan and the interview
questions that are found in the reports. The providers can all see how the
initial assessment tool can be an asset to progression opportunities.

It is the view of all providers and employers that the initial assessment tool
is suitable for all the sector involved and that no amendments need to be
made. Jo North has discussed in detail with Profiles4Care the opportunity
of disseminating initial assessment tool more widely through the sector.
The approach suggested is through a license which will be held by In
Touch Care. Please see the link

July 2014 - Actions
 It has been agreed that JISC, FairTrain and In Touch Care will have a
teleconference the week commencing the 14th July 2014 in order that the
distance travelled/RARPA utilising the initial assessment resource on a
monthly basis can be recorded effectively in the eportfolio. By the end of
July anyone who wishes to utilise the initial assessment tool will be able to
do so through license held at In Touch Care.

Collate all the findings and write the Final Report. Action by In Touch
Care Project Lead.

Teleconference planned to include all partners to share progress to date
(Friday 25th July 2014). Action by In Touch Care Project Lead.

Update the Project Plan onto the TSSP website. The feedback from the
AELP event and the teleconference will be communicated through this
route as well as in minutes of both meetings (Friday 25th July 2014).

2. An interactive and innovative e-portfolio, designed using online technologies that
enables trainees to collect evidence of their progress in work placements and in the
training centre. This will be accessible and usable by the learner, provider and
employer in a technology-friendly way. We will conduct small-scale action research
to measure the impact of using the e-portfolio and enable us to refine its design. We
will run trials with a minimum of twenty learners across a six-month period. We will
hold learner, employer and provider focus groups to identify the success of the eportfolio and amend the tool based on our action research findings.
Roles, Responsibilities and Timescales
June 2014 – Outcomes
 It was agreed that the e-portfolio developments would be completed in July.
This decision was made because the portfolio in it’s hard copy needed to be
trialed before becoming electronic.
July 2014 – Actions
 Continue the Pilot of e-portfolio resource and gather feedback from
learners, employers and providers. Action by In Touch Care Project
Lead.

Collate all the findings and write the Final Report. Action by In Touch
Care Project Lead.

Action by In Touch Care Project Lead

On the 31st July evaluate all the evidence from the e-portfolio resource in
order that progress can be made to a final version. Action by In Touch
Care Project Lead
3. Partnership approaches for designing e-curriculum resources to help both the
employer and training provider to teach, using collaborative enquiry and active
learning pedagogies. This teaching will include practical workplace skills, as well as
theory elements of occupational content for learners at lower levels. This resource
will be developed in three occupational areas: childcare/early years, health and
social care and dental nursing. All resources will be linked to the Leadership
Qualities Framework for front line workers [ref]. The success of the three eresources will be linked to traineeship success (we are assuming that learners will
be successful on traineeships if their employer is working effectively with them to
help them develop theoretical understanding and practical skills).
Roles, Responsibilities and Timescales
June 2014 – Outcomes
 The providers working with their employers had developed the resources in
hard copies for mentor support. In each sector there have been some specific
developments in order that the trainees/learners in each sector can be
supported by their mentors.

The providers and the employers feel that the developments are fit for
purpose. The sharing of these developments have been a positive CPD
experience for all partners.
July 2014 – Actions
 By the end of July the 3 e-resources will be completed.

Collate all the findings and write the Final Report. Action by In Touch
Care Project Lead.

4. Three online e-CPD courses which can be accessed by staff supporting learners
in the three areas identified above (initial assessment, using e-portfolios and e
curriculum resource development). Staff will be able to access the CPD modules
anytime, anywhere. We will ask staff to evaluate the resources and we will monitor
the impact on the three areas listed above.
Roles, Responsibilities and Timescales
June 2014 – Outcomes
 June has been a month for sharing resources across providers and
employers in order that the development of the e-resources in July will be
fit for purpose.

5. A ‘quality standard’ for the work placement element of Traineeships for employers
and providers, modelled on the work already done by Fair Train in this area (see
www.fairtrain.org/) . Outputs will include a range of piloted materials such as
supportive documentation (health and safety, equality and diversity, rights and
responsibilities, contract of employment, Traineeship agreement, one-to-one reviews,
appraisals, a work experience strategy and individual learning plans). There will also
be a coaching and mentoring online course for employees in an organisation who
are supporting work experience placements in Traineeships.
Roles, Responsibilities and Timescales

Prospects Training are working towards.

North Hill Residential home (Sheffield) have achieved their Bronze
Standard
July 2014 – Actions
 The providers continue to work with their named employers to support
successful achievements of the Quality Mark.
