Revised September 2005 Physical Processing of Archives Books Archives materials, including those in boxes and pam binders, DO NOT receive EZ Covers, “Archives—Room use only” labels, nor embossing. DO NOT write the call number on the title page. Check with Reagan before adding a copy 2 for Archives. 1) If the book has a dust jacket, keep it on the book. 2) All Archives books, including Rare Books, should have security strips placed in them. The security strip should be placed on a non-essential page, such as any blank pages at the front or the back of the book. 3) We are currently using Gaylord rare book id strips, part # RBLAS, for the barcode, call number, & title. They are made with four long strips to a sheet, with perforations for removing each one. The call number should appear at the top of the strip and the title should appear below it. ITEMS IN BOXES OR PAM BINDERS DO NOT RECEIVE RARE BOOK STRIPS. SEE BELOW. 4) The call number and title information should be typed in Word using the instructions entitled “Laser/InkJet Printable Rare Book ID Strips.” A sample of a completed, printed page of strips follows the instruction page. 5) The barcode should be placed horizontally below the call number and title information on the strip. 6) The strip should be placed on a non-essential page. ITEMS IN BOXES OR PAM BINDERS: 1) Place security strip on a non-essential page of the book 2) Print spine label and place in front upper left corner of the box or pam binder 3) Pam binders: Place barcode label on upper center of inside back cover of binder Boxes: Place barcode on front upper center of the box 4) Print label with title and author information and place on front center of the box or pam binder
