Notes for DELILAH W. TANNER:
IONIA STANDARD, 6-4-1909: "Mrs. Ira Bennett, died at the home in Berlin,
Wednesday evening. Her maiden name was Delia W. Tanner and she was born
in the state of New York, May, 1838. She married in that state in 1856, came to
Michigan in 1857, having been a resident here for over half a century. The
husband survives and there are no children."
Per undated newspaper obituary: Death of Mrs. Ira Bennett. Delilah Bennett,
wife of Ira Bennett of Berlin, died at 8 o'clock last night (Wednesday, June 2).
Deceased was 71 years old, May 17, 1906.
The funeral was held at 10:30 on Saturday, at the home and at 1-- o'clock at the
church. Burial in the Balcom cemtery. Mrs. Bennett was married to the husband
who survives her in Lockport, N. Y. fifty-three years ago next October. They
came to Berlin the next year (1857) and have lived on the farm where she died
ever since. They have never had any children but three brothers and a sister
survive. The house is on section 14, one mile west of the Bellevue road.
The aged couple celebrated their golden "wedding" three years ago, an account
of which was published in the Sentinel at the time, together with their portraits
which are here reproduced.
Mrs. Bennett's maiden name was Delia Tanner. She was a member of the
Wesleyan Methodist Church, as is her husband.
The most remarkable part of this remarkable record is, perhaps that they lived
on the one farm where they started, during the entire period of their married life,
except the first year. Golden anniversaries are rare but golden celebrations of the
occupancy of one home are rarer still."

spring of 1866 and has lived ever since in the Township of Berlin. He was
married to Miss Matilda Bradt Dec. 17, 1868. To this union were given two sons
and one daughter. The wife and children survive him. In 1862, he enlisted in the
Civil War and bravely served his country until the close of the conflict. He was
always at the front, was engaged in one hundred and twenty-five battles and
skirmishes. His death was largely due to a wound in the neck that affected the
spine. He suffered much for three weeks. In 1886, he enlisted in the army of the
Lord, and united with the Wesleyan Methodist church at East Berlin, and was a
true and faithful member until death. One of the chief characteristics of Brother
Bennett was that he was a strong supporter of the gospel, financially. Another
strong pillar is gone. The Church with the family mourn. The funeral services
