Wellbeing of Women and the Royal College of Midwives are delighted to announce research grants available in 2014 for midwives: 1. Entry Level Scholarships with the Royal College of Midwives and the British Maternal & Fetal Medicine Society Entry-Level Research Scholarships are to provide ‘pump-priming’ funds to enable trainees to be exposed to a research environment, or to obtain pilot data for bids for definitive funding. Applicants will normally be within the first few years of graduation, and would not previously have been involved in substantial research projects. Scholarships may be held in basic science, clinical or translational research and are a single payment up to a maximum of £20,000 to go towards salary and/or laboratory costs. One scholarship is reserved for midwives. This is open to applicants studying in the UK or Ireland. 2. Midwives International Fellowship Award with the Royal College of Midwives Applications are invited to enable midwives to further develop research interests in midwifery, maternity services, pregnancy, childbirth and women’s health from an international perspective. This award is up to £20,000 is open to RCM midwives who hold full membership status and current registration with the NMC .The applicant(s) may be experienced researchers or new to the research discipline. This research activity can be undertaken in the UK or overseas and is an opportunity for an individual midwife or for a team of midwives. 3. Research Training Fellowship for Midwives 2014 in Association with the Royal College of Midwives This award is generously supported by PZ Cussons Mum & Me Applications are invited for a Research Training Fellowship, to be undertaken in the UK to further the training of a midwifery graduate embarking upon a research project or research career. The award of up to £60,000 is for training in clinical relevant research including explanatory and feasibility studies in at least one of the following areas: 1. Physiological, psychosocial and cultural aspects of pregnancy, birth, parenthood and the newborn 2. Public health and the role of the midwife 3. The education, training and deployment of midwives Fellowships are awarded for three years and cover the cost of university fees, basic living costs and research expenses. The closing date for the Research Training Fellowship is 6th September 2013.
