Cape variations (2 phrase sequence) Measure 1(beats 1,2,3): follower turns clockwise under lead=s left arm, around to right. Measure 2 (beats 4,5,6): lead switches hands (put follower=s right hand in lead=s right hand) and leads follower behind to his left side. Lead keeps facing line of direction! Lead keeps right hand palm forward, fingers up, shoulder level. Left hands joined in front, lead=s palm forward, fingers up, shoulder level. Variation to begin “sequence”: from closed position, on beats 4,5,6 gently place follower's right hand behind her back in "chicken wing" position, and hold with lead's right hand. On next beats 1-6 lead follower to do clockwise twirl 1 ½x using joined right hands to initiate. As follower comes around, lead offers his left hand at shoulder level, next to his left shoulder. Measure 3-4 (6 beats): rotate 360 degrees together without changing frame. Measure 5-6 (6 beats): bring follower back to right side (2 full turns clockwise) by bringing left hand in front of lead and then raising it up to turn her clockwise. Have your right arm up and ready to catch her next to you in cape position. (If there is not enough time for 2 twirls, one is fine. Use your judgment!) Measure 7-8: waltz forward together Measure 1-2: lead follower behind (throwing coat on feel) to left side. Don=t let go of either hand, but end with left hand in front about shoulder height and right hand behind lead at waist level. Lead steps to right to accommodate follower. Measure 3-4: waltz forward together. Measure 5-6: turn follower counterclockwise using left hand, lead goes under his raised left arm (both are turning 360 degrees in place to come back to starting position). Measure 7-8: follower turns clockwise 1 1/2 times into closed position by bringing left hand in front of lead and then raising it to twirl follower. Drop follower=s hand on lead=s right shoulder and catch follower with lead=s right arm in closed position. Variation back to closed from cape: On SECOND foot (beats 4,5,6), lead follower around behind to lead's left side, by raising left hand and lowering right hand. Use all 6 beats to get her to your left side, just in time to lead clockwise FREE twirl on beats 4,5,6 to catch back in closed position. Feel free to play with mixing the moves up and using them interchangeably. You can also add in measures of waltzing straight forward between the twirls to give yourself more time!
