Sender: Kathie Clark [kclark@interlynx.net] Subject: New National Collaborating Centre for Public Health On May 17, 2007, the Canadian federal government announced the establishment of the National Collaborating Centre for Methods and Tools (NCCMT). The NCCMT is one of the six National Collaborating Centres funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada to support evidence-informed public health practice. The NCCMT is hosted by McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. The Centre will fill a much-needed role in Canada by providing easy access to knowledge synthesis, translation and exchange (KSTE) methods and tools for use by public health practitioners and policy makers. In order to respond effectively to the evidence needs of public health practitioners and policy makers, the NCCMT will be establishing networks and partnerships with individuals and groups across Canada. Their advice and input will be essential. For more information about the NCCMT and its work, please send your name and contact information to Jenny Marrone, Administrative Assistant at nccmt@mcmaster.ca. Your name will be added to a database to which we will send future announcements, notices and newsletters. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX C. Sender: Emma Tavender [etavender@NICSL.com.au] Subject: Job Ad – Project manager and Project officers Position: Project manager (position no: 0017196) and Project officers (position no: 0017174) Organisation: Global Evidence Mapping (GEM) Initiative, Collaboration with University of Melbourne Location: Melbourne, Australia Application deadline: 6 June 2007 Web: For the full position descriptions and details of how to apply please refer to the University of Melbourne website: http://jobs.unimelb.edu.au/ and enter the position number. The Global Evidence Mapping (GEM) Initiative is an exciting new development that aims to make synthesised research evidence available to clinicians, research funding agencies and policymakers. Unlike systematic reviews that tackle relatively narrow questions, the GEM Initiative aims to characterize all prognostic, diagnostic and therapeutic evidence in a broad clinical area. Stage 1 will address the fields of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). Evidencemapping involves three main tasks: (1) creation of a ‘map’ of key issues or questions in patient management using expert clinician and consumer input; (2) identification and retrieval of research that addresses each of these issues; and (3) performance of detailed assessments of priority areas, identifying areas where there are deficiencies in research evidence (and where new projects are needed) or where synthesis of existing research is required.
