That’s why, the professors and students of the Medical Informatics Center of the University of Informatics Sciences since 2006 develops a PACS-RIS product. This project is responsible for developing applications and environments dissimilar scopes that facilitate the storage, display and processing of medical imaging and information management associated with the processes taking place in the imaging departments of health institutions. These applications have been installed and operated in various institutions in the country and also in some institutions in Venezuela. This article presents the main experiences of developing and deploy the applications that formed part of the PACS-RIS product. It describes the main difficulties encountered during development, related to the fulfillment of the standard DICOM by medical equipment manufacturers and informatics technology limitations. Also describe the alternatives adopted to correct the deficiencies and the results obtained. It contains the main features of the developed software solution, its impact on health in Cuba and Venezuela and the acceptance by medical staff of the developed applications. 2012 Rev. 5
