Job Description: Weller Natural Preserve Manager The Preserve Manager is responsible for all ongoing and day-to-day activities on the Weller Natural Preserve, including Rippled Cave. This person is the public face of the WCC for everyone who uses or interacts with the Preserve and as such must be willing to work with cavers, volunteers, neighbors, county and state employees and any other persons who may have business with the Preserve. The ability to be tactful and diplomatic are essential. This position may, on rare occasions, require that the holder step into situations of conflict and do whatever is necessary and possible to uphold the reputation of the WCC and resolve the matter. General Duties: To understand and be fully familiar with the Weller Natural Preserve Management Plan and be able to assure that it will be implemented. To work cooperatively with the other members of Weller Natural Preserve Management Subcommittee (WNPMS) and the Board of Directors to make decisions regarding implementation of the plan and to formulate necessary changes or updates. Attendance at regular Board meetings may be necessary on some occasions. Meet reporting requirements to the Board of Directors: 1) Prepared written report summarizing preserve activities for each quarter and submit them by email to the Director of Stewardship prior to the scheduled meeting or as requested by the Board. 2) Send timely updates of information as needed to the WNPMS and Board of Directors regarding any significant developments. 3) Prepare at least one news article per year, or as appropriate, regarding preserve activities for the WCC newsletter. Specific Duties (as outlined in the Weller Preserve Management Plan Be the contact person for permitted groups and individuals visiting the cave and preserve. Be the contact person for the property neighbors, local law enforcement, and local fire management personnel. Regularly visit the property to check on property security and ensure that all is well on site. Ensure that the two buildings on the preserve are properly maintained and secure. Maintain the cave register in the Entrance Room of Rippled Cave. Maintain emergency contact information on site including fire, police, neighbors and the closest location that cell phone will work. Assist with workday coordination and preparation. Attend and assist with most workdays on the preserve. Maintain flagging in the cave and any signage on the preserve. Make recommendations for changes in management policy to the WNPMS. Be responsible for other duties and tasks as assigned by the WNPMS. Time Commitment: Average of 2 days per month at the preserve, 1-2 hours average per week for email and phone call business and 2-4 hours/month for work project preparation. These type commitments typically cluster during certain periods of the year (winter and spring) when workdays and caving activities are most likely to occur. Prior to board meetings a few hours (2-4) will be necessary to prepare the quarterly written report. Attendance at Weller Natural Preserve Management Subcommittee meetings will probably require 1-2 days or evenings per year while attendance at Board and/or Stewardship Committee meetings may entail several other days or evenings during the year.
