BRITISH SOCIETY FOR ORAL MEDICINE PRIZE 2011 The British Society for Oral Medicine offers two prizes to encourage research in the field of Oral Medicine:i) for young workers (junior prize) ii) no age limit. The regulations governing the award of the prizes are as follows:1. The Prizes shall be known as ‘The British Society for Oral Medicine Prizes’. The value of the junior prize will be £200, the second prize has no monetary value. Entrants are required to present the papers at the Annual Meeting of the Society during the year in which the prizes are to be awarded. 2. The British Society for Oral Medicine reserves the right to withhold the award of the prize if entries are of insufficient merit. 3. Assessment for award of the prizes will be based on an essay and the verbal presentation. The subject matter must be a piece of original research, which may have been previously published. The entrant must be the sole author of the competing paper, but the work may be presented on behalf of a research group. The text of the entry should be not more than 2,000 words (figures and tables may be included) and should be in the approximate form of the verbal presentation to be made at the meeting. 4. Candidates for the junior prize should be not more than 40 years of age on 1 January in the year of the award. Entrants must be fully subscribed members of the British Society for Oral Medicine. No one individual may win an award on more than one occasion, but may be eligible to win both. 5. The list of candidates will remain confidential and only the name of the winner of the award will be made public. 6. The prize shall be awarded by the Society on the recommendation of a panel of three assessors appointed annually for this purpose and such additional assessors as the Council may wish to consult. The assessors, at their discretion, may divide the prize between two candidates. 7. Entrants should submit an abstract to the local organising committee of the annual scientific meeting. 8. All applications should be sent to the Secretary at the address below. Candidates are required to submit by noon on Friday 1 April 2011.
