II. Treasurer’s Report—balance of $125.00 must be spent by the end of May
III. Announcements:
a. Edith Gallagher was named the PSEC Coach of the Year
IV. Old Business:
a. PASSHE Consortium: This event will be held September 14 and 15th at
University of California of Pennsylvania. There is a May 6th deadline to present.
b. Student Spotlight: We will start this again in the fall and will hand out certificates.
c. Mentor Luncheon: There were good reviews, but the committee agrees that we
need to get the word out better and have more nominees. There was a
newspaper article and picture in the local papers.
d. Students discussing the trip lead by Judith Sornberger: The students went to
various author homes in the Concord/Amherst area. The all agreed the
importance of travelling to the sites and being able to experience it through all 5
senses. The all called it “surreal”.
e. Flashlight Article: The editorial that Amy DeLozier read was buried in the middle
of the paper and we received no comments back.
f.
Steve McCloskey: Gretchen met with him again and he said that Sprint football
will not be on the calendar twice. They also discussed having “press
conferences” for new coach hires, but a concern would be who would show up
and he didn’t want to embarrass the coach. They are going to hold a “Meet the
Coach” event in the future.
g. Role of commission in new President’s office: JP Burke attended on the
President’s behalf.
V. New Business:
a. Elections: Mary Daly has joined the commission. We need to find additional
students.
b. Leadership Institute for Faculty Women: It will be held August 12-17 at Toftrees
Resort. Alan Golden said he would pay for faculty to attend. Gretchen and Jan
asked to attend the event.
c. Facebook Video Series: There is a series of videos on facebook being made in
the campus dorm rooms that call female students “whores” and have titles such
as, “Four Steps to be a Good Girlfriend” and “Sex too soon”. They were originally
tagging specific women, but the tags were removed. A sit down occurred with
James Parker, but it is a “freedom of speech” issue.
d. Request for Funds: Judith Sornberger requested the remaining funds be spent
on the nursing room in Belknap. They have ordered a coded lock and want to
buy a fridge, carpets, music, etc. to make it more “homey”.
