Grand Knight’s Message
Dear Faithful Brother Knights and Families:
As we approach this Lenten season we must work on detaching ourselves from our
worldliness; Lent is a time to strengthen our faith, to strengthen our will for the battle, to
embrace our standard, the cross, as a means of bringing us closer to God so that we
might have the courage to stand up to whatever persecution comes our way. Come
what may we must stay the course.
We begin our 20th Year of doing a Lenten observance of Fish on Fridays! I look forward
to everyone contributing to make this event the success we have known it to be in the
past. A special word of thanks to Brother Bill Moeller for moving the trailer to the church
campus; Brother Jerome Villarreal for his help in moving and setting up the fryers and all
of the equipment from our storage unit; and to Brother Dan Mellen for getting the carpet
for the trailer.
Let me encourage all of you to turn out to support the upcoming Pro-Life Mass and
March occurring this weekend in Huntsville. It is vital that you show yourself on the
public square and proclaim your beliefs.
If you have not paid your council dues, please do so now. At last count we had
approximately 130 men who had not paid their dues this year. Let me share with you
why it is important that you pay your dues.
1. Commitment. Paying your dues vests you in the council and its activities. As a
vested member, you make a continuous financial and psychological commitment to
the council and its goals.
2. Long-term Planning. Dues permit our council the freedom to do proper long range
planning. Your dues form an income stream that frees up time from constant
fundraising and provides the means to support charitable giving opportunities that
continually cross our plate. Everyone’s dues also ensure that the council meets its
mandatory obligations to the State and Supreme Councils.
3. Accountability. By paying your dues, you ensure that our council continues to be
accountable to the broad wishes of our membership. It must also be emphasized
1
that as a charitable organization we also gladly offer waivers from dues for members
who are struggling through family, financial, and medically related hardships.
4. Where do your dues dollars go? Your dues dollars are used in many ways such
as:

To defray the costs of running the council to pay for such things as postage
and supplies used to maintain our membership.

To cover the State Councils assessments (payable twice a year) and that
cost us $7.00 annually per member.

To pay the Supreme Per Capita Tax billed semiannually at $1.75 per
member based on the number of members on file with Supreme. We
currently have 254 active members on record.

The council gets billed semiannually per member on record at the Supreme
Council Office at a rate of $0.50 for Catholic Advertising.

The council is billed semiannually at $1.00 per member based on the
members of record on file at the Supreme Council office for Culture of Life
Fund.

Your dues also support of seminarian fund. The council provides a $500
stipend for our sponsored seminarian once a year.

Five dollars from your dues goes towards the Diocesan Priesthood
Scholarship Fund. Each year around this time the Treasurer will send a
check for $1200+ to the State Treasurer and who will then combine our
amount with other in order to provide each Bishop in the State with a $5000
check to provide scholarships to seminarians in his diocese.

Your dues help supports many charitable giving opportunities within the
parish, in the local community, and around the state.

Your dues help defray the costs associated with membership for our
brothers who are facing hardships and have had their dues waived.
It is Lent, let us arm ourselves with prayer, as every true Knight does and pray for
forgiveness and penance, that we are also given the grace to suffer well, to take up our
cross when we are called, and persevere knowing that suffering is not meaningless, that
it is united to the Cross of Christ and is part of his mission to redeem the world.
Fraternally,
Danny Garcia

Council 10232 Service Activities
Church Activities
Strong Men Strong Faith A Success
The conference designed to bring men together to examine their spirituality as it relates to their
lives as husbands, fathers, and work colleagues featured two outstanding speakers, Tom Peters,
and Alan Hunt. The event held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church drew 421 men from North
Alabama.
Council Prayers for Priests Team Being Formed
The purpose of this program is to pray for our priests by name on a daily basis for his priestly
intentions and his personal sanctification. This is accomplished through a team concept. When a
priest is selected, a Team Leader is identified to recruit six other team members thus forming a
seven-member team. Each Team Member attends Mass on his designated day of the week,
recites at least one decade of the Holy Rosary daily, also recites the Chaplet of Divine Mercy
daily, and says the Daily Commitment Prayer daily. Participation in this program is not restricted
to members of the Knights of Columbus, but would be open for participation to any Catholic
desiring to participate. I hope you will offer your full support to this program and will be an active
participant. Please contact Brother Joe McCarty to volunteer at joemccarty@ohiocpa.net.
Council Activities
Council Membership Recruitment Opportunities
We are currently working towards bringing in 30 eligible men into the council this fraternal year.
Please encourage eligible practical men to join the council. It is imperative that we make it
our business to offer every eligible man at St. John’s the opportunity to join our council.
Lenten Fish Dinners
Council members will once again fire up the fryers and will be frying fish on the Friday evenings of
Lent. Dinners will begin on March 7th and proceed for the following 5 Fridays for a total of 6
dinners with the last taking place on Friday April 11th. The dinners were originally envisioned as
3
a way to attract parishioners to Stations of the Cross services held on the Friday’s of Lent and will
continue to serve that purpose. Therefore, serving will commence at 4:45pm and will end at
6:15pm. Everyone’s help will be needed to make the dinners a success. If you haven’t signed up
to help with this great seasonal traditional please send me an email at dgarcia227@gmail.com.

Minutes taken by Sam DiPiazza
Devine Mercy Chaplet
1. Make the Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
2. Optional Opening Prayers
You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the
ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life,
unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself
out upon us. O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart
of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You!
3. Our Father
Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom
come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who
trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from
evil, Amen.
4. Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is
the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour
of our death, Amen.
5. The Apostle's Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only
Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under
Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day He
rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the
Father almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy
Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection
of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
6. The Eternal Father
Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our
Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.
7. On the Ten Small Beads of Each Decade
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
8. Repeat for the remaining decades
Saying the "Eternal Father" (6) on the "Our Father" bead and then 10 "For the sake of His
sorrowful Passion" (7) on the following "Hail Mary" beads.
9. Conclude with Holy God (Repeat three times)
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
10. Optional Closing Prayer
Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion — inexhaustible, look
kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor
become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love
and Mercy itself.
