No. 1. 2. Acronym BRU GPU Description Bull Rearing Unit Germplasm Unit Section 4(b): Description and definition of success indicators and proposed measurement methodology S. No. Success indicator Description Definition Measurement General comment 1. Frieswal bull calves selected for rearing The meritorious male calves born from elite cows are selected from different Military Farms for rearing at BRU, Meerut as future bulls for semen collection. The meritorious male calves Number born from elite Frieswal cows at Military Farms are superior than the male calves born from normal cows and are used for semen production for inter se mating of Frieswal cows. Selection of genetically superior male calves for future semen production will bring genetic improvement. 2. Frozen semen doses produced The semen of the selected bulls are collected and frozen for insemination of cows at the farms. The semen is frozen in the Number form of straws in liquid nitrogen for artificial insemination of cows. Artificial insemination through frozen semen doses is the ideal method for faster multiplication of breed and it helps in insemination of desired number of cows from few good bulls. 3. Inseminations carried out Insemination of selected The crossbred bulls are Number farmer’s cows with progeny tested in field Progeny testing is the well accepted method to study the superior crossbred bull semen is done in field condition to bring the improvement of cattle in field condition. condition to bring improvement of field cattle and see the extent of improvement. genetic worth of the bulls and bring out improvement of field cattle. 4. Progenies produced Large numbers of crossbred cows are inseminated with superior germplasm for production of daughters in field to study the production and reproduction traits. The number of progeny Number produced by crossbred cows through insemination of superior germplasm in field brings out improvement of farmers herd. The daughters produced by the insemination of superior germplasm have the better production traits thus improves the milk production in field condition 5. Inseminations carried out Insemination of indigenous breed cows with selected bulls semen is done at GPU and associated herds to bring the genetic improvement of cattle. The semen is collected from Number superior bulls and frozen at GPU of the respective breed and is used for mating at GPU and associated herds. Artificial insemination in required number is carried out at the farms for production of daughters. 6. Progenies produced The progenies are born at GPU and associated herds for rearing as future cows. The daughters born at Number Indigenous farms are supposed to have inherited the good production traits received through superior germplasm. The progenies are produced at the farms from each set of bulls superior than the earlier one thus bringing improvement in subsequent progenies. .
