Title of research: Taxonomy of Lygaeoidea of the Old World Supervisor: Előd Kondorosy, PhD, associate professor Scientific area: Agricultural sciences Research Institutions: Dept. of Animal Science and Animal Husbandry, Georgikon Faculty, Keszthely, University of Pannonia Branch of Science: Animal husbandry Introduction and Research tasks: The supervisor is studying the taxonomy of Lygaeoidea since the end of the 1990’s years. In the last 15 years he described (partly with PhD students or colleagues) 6 new genera or subgenera, 28 new species, synonymized 26 species, and not mentioned the synonyms proposed 13 new combinations. Type material of 16 European and 2 non-European museums were studied. The proposal for the applicants is study the system of Lygaeoidea superfamily of the Hemiptera, especially of selected groups. The student gains experience also in preparation of insect genitalia and photomicrography. Background: Microscopes and other equipments are available in the department for the study. The supervisor has all needed literature, mostly in pdf format, also an extensive sample of pictures of type specimens. The material borrowed from 15 various museums are enough for the work.
