CARDIOVASCULAR TECHNOLOGIST
CARDIAC CATH LAB
PERMANENT FULL TIME
The Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region is the largest health care delivery system in southern
Saskatchewan and one of the most integrated health delivery agencies in the country. The
Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region provides tertiary care to residents of Saskatchewan in two
provincial hospitals – the Regina General Hospital and the Pasqua Hospital. The Regina
Qu’Appelle Health Region offers a full range of hospital, rehabilitation, community and public
health, long term care and home care services to meet the needs of more than 260,000
residents living in cities, towns, villages, rural municipalities and First Nation communities
within the Region.
JOB SUMMARY
Cardiovascular Technologists are specialists in invasive diagnostic and interventional
procedures. They are part of a multidisciplinary team who assist the cardiologist during both
routine cardiac catheterization and emergency situations.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Cardiovascular Technologist has multiple roles on the Cardiac Catheterization lab team.
He/she will:

Demonstrate competent and professional behavior with all tasks and roles of the job.

Demonstrate technical proficiency with all cardiac cath lab procedures and equipment.

Apply anatomical and physiological knowledge to be able to expertly assist the
Cardiologist during all procedures.

As scrub assistant, assist the Cardiologist with sterile patient and equipment preparation
for all procedures and all necessary equipment in the cardiac cath lab.

As case recorder, maintain good communication with the team, ensure proper
equipment set up, accurate record keeping and monitoring, and quality data collection.

As case circulator, administer medication, ensure patient safety and comfort, and
distribute equipment as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Registered Respiratory Therapist, Registered Nurse, Bachelor of Science or Applied
Health Diploma.
Professional Certification: Licensed Allied Health Professional, eligible for CACPT.
Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology, electrocardiography and hemodynamics,
coronary heart disease and cardiac pharmacology.
Communication and interpersonal skills, organizational and analytical skills, basic computer
skills.
This position requires on call hours with immediate availability for after hours emergencies.
This position requires wearing a lead apron for extended periods of time due to radiation
exposure.
