RNIB – Supporting people with sight loss Talking Alarm Clock Keychain CC41 Please retain these instructions for future reference. These instructions are also available in other formats. Special warning This clock will be set to power saving mode when you receive it, which is to preserve the battery while in transit and storage. When in this mode the clock will not produce any audible output or show any digits on the display. To turn the clock on, press and hold the large Talk button on the front of the clock for approximately three seconds. The watch will beep four times and show digits on the display. General description This clock is great for taking out and about as its small and portable and comes fitted with a keychain to attach to keys. The time is announced at the touch of a button, and is also shown on the LCD. The clock features an alarm, a snooze alarm, optional hourly announcement, 12/24 hour time option and a power saving mode. Orientation Front Just below the top edge is a small rectangular recess which contains the LCD screen. The time and alarm digits are shown measuring 0.7cm high. Just below this is a rubberised, elongated horizontal button. This is the Talk button, which when pressed firmly, announces the time. These are from left to right: Mode button Hour adjust/Alarm on/off button Minute adjust/Hour Report button Just below the buttons are two small screw holes, one towards the left edge and the other to the right, which are to be removed when replacing the batteries. Towards the bottom is the speaker grille, identified by seven narrow horizontal slats. Top Located centrally is a small rounded tether for the keychain. Using the product Time announcement To hear the time, press the large Talk button on the front of the clock. Setting the 12/24 hour time format Please note: Some sighted assistance may be required when setting the time and alarm time. In normal time mode, press the Mode button once to enter the 12/24 hour setting and ''12H'' or ''24H'' flashes on the LCD screen. Press the Hour button to set the 12 hour format: "Twelve" will be spoken. Press the Minute button to set the 24 hour format: "Twenty-four" will be spoken. Press the Mode button to confirm and to move to the next setting or press three times to return to the normal time mode, whereupon you will hear four beeps. rnib.org.uk Setting the time The time can be set in either 12 or 24 hour style, and "AM" and "PM" will be spoken in the 12 hour option. In normal time mode, press the Mode button twice to enter time set mode, and the clock will announce: "Time set" and the hour and minute digits flash on the display. Press the Hour button to set the hour and the Minute button to set the minute. The clock will announce each hour and minute when setting the time. When complete either press the Mode button once to enter the alarm time set or press Mode twice to revert back to normal time mode, whereupon the clock will beep four times. Please note: You can advance through the hours and minutes by pressing and holding the Hour and Minute buttons, whereupon the count continues in very rapid beeps and is only intended for use when a large digit count is involved. This alternative method also applies to alarm setting. Setting the alarm time In normal time mode, press the Mode button three times to enter into the alarm time set mode, whereupon the clock will announce: Alarm set", and "AL" appears and the hour and minute digits flash on the display. Then follow the same instructions for setting the time using the Hour and Minute buttons to set a desired alarm time. Return to normal time mode by pressing the Mode button and the clock will beep four times and show the time set on the display. To turn on/off the alarm In the normal time mode, press the Hour/Alarm button once to turn on the alarm, the bell symbol appears on the display and the clock will announce ''alarm on'' then the alarm time set. rnib.org.uk To activate the snooze alarm, press the Hour/Alarm button again, the letters SNZ appear below the bell symbol and the clock will announce “snooze on” then the alarm time set. To turn the alarm off, press the Hour/Alarm button and the clock will announce “alarm off” and both the bell symbol and letters SNZ will disappear from the display. The alarm When the alarm sounds at the set time, four rapid beeps are followed by the time announcement and this is repeated for one minute. The alarm can be terminated during this time by pressing the Talk button on the front of the clock. The alarm will sound again at the same time the following day unless switched off via the Hour/Alarm button. This does not cancel the alarm's set time and it can be switched on again at any point. The snooze alarm The snooze facility operates in conjunction with the alarm: it both sets and turns off automatically with the alarm. The snooze provides repeat alarm calls every five minutes for a total of 25 minutes (six alarm calls). You can do the following during the alarm sounding: Press the Talk button or any of the function buttons to temporarily stop the alarm, which will then resume in five minutes. Press the Mode button. This turns off the snooze function (''SNZ'' will stop flashing) and the alarm will not sound again until next day at the preset time. Press the Hour/Alarm button. This terminates the snooze and the alarm completely, and you will need to turn the alarm back on for it to sound again the next day. rnib.org.uk To turn on/off hourly time announcement This feature, when activated, announces the time on the hour, every hour. To turn on, in normal time mode, press the Minute button until five rapid beeps are heard. A speaker symbol appears in the top right corner of the display. To turn off the hourly time announcement, press the Minute button when in normal time mode until the speaker symbol disappears. It will only beep once to indicate the hourly time announcement is off. Power saving mode If you are not going to use the clock for a prolonged period it is recommended that you activate the power save mode to preserve the battery life. Press and hold both the Mode and Talk buttons simultaneously for approximately three seconds. The clock display will go blank but no sound will be made. To check that the clock has entered power saving mode, press any button and if there is no speech output the watch will have entered power saving mode. Battery replacement Please note: If the LCD screen fades and/or the sound becomes weak or the function is abnormal, please change the batteries. Some sighted assistance is advisable due to the small parts in this product. The clock uses two AG13 (LR44) alkaline batteries. Replacement batteries are available from RNIB under product code CP16. Please note: RNIB does not guarantee batteries. 1. Place the clock face down on a table or firm surface. 2. Locate the two screw holes towards the left and right edge on the back of the clock, and using a small Phillips screwdriver, remove the two small screws by turning anti-clockwise. They will rnib.org.uk come right to the surface and can be removed easily. Place them in a safe place until you are ready to screw them back into the clock. 3. The back of the clock can now be removed from the front by twisting the key chain holder slightly to the left to raise the left edge of the back. By using the gap now created, coax the back gently from the front. Please take note when doing this that the wire from the circuit board (front section) to the speaker (back section) is connected and should not be separated. Simply lay the opened back section next to the front section. 4. Remove both batteries, noting their placement in the battery holders. Replace the batteries with left side (positive/flat) facing up and right side (negative/rounded) facing up. 5. Align the back of the clock with the front and press carefully into place. 6. Ensure that the two screws drop straight into the respective holes prior to tightening.
