It would be great to have as many returning spouses participate in the afternoon socials and the beach day to help welcome and answer any questions the new spouses might have. Please check the box(es) for the orientation events/activities you will be participating in: DAY 1 – Wednesday, September 3 11am – Welcome & Orientation Meeting @ International Center (IC) Are you in New Haven with your husband, wife or partner who is studying or working all day at Yale? Are you wondering what you’re going to do with your time? Come to this program and meet other spouses & partners. Learn more about the opportunities and resources available to you at Yale and in New Haven. Each registered participant will receive an information packet with many freebies! 12:30pm – Lunch @ Sitar Indian Restaurant, 45 Grove Street We’ll be going to one of New Haven’s best lunch deals. Yummy all-you-can-eat lunch buffet (bring $11 (more if you order a beverage) which includes tax and tip). 2pm – Peabody Museum Tour & Volunteer Opportunity Talk, 170 Whitney Avenue Come along to this specially arranged tour and hear about volunteer opportunities at the Peabody. 3pm to 5pm – Human Resources (HR) Open House for Spouses and Partners Yale HR Department is holding their Open House for Graduate Student Spouses @ 155 Whitney Avenue, Room 120. 4pm – ISPY Social @ IC This is a “meet and greet” for new and returning spouses and partners. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon chatting with new and old friends over some yummy light refreshments. Feel free to ask questions about life at Yale and New Haven. DAY 3 - Friday, September 5 DAY 2 - Thursday, September 4 9:30am – Meet @ IC (tea & refreshments available) 10am – New Haven Public Library Tour One of the librarians will give us a brief tour of the New Haven Free Public Library and find out what resources are available to you there – did you know they have an extensive CD/DVD collection too?! You will also have an opportunity to obtain your public library card if you bring along the necessary documents with you – a list is found online at: http://www.cityofnewhaven.com/library 11am – Sterling Memorial Library Workshop This specially arranged hands-on workshop is to introduce you to the incredible resources Yale’s library has for you. Learn about the powerful databases for international news and articles. Learn how to access these from home. So whether you want to just keep up with what’s going on in the world or if you’re completing your own research, this session is for you! 12pm – FREE lunch @ HGS Dining Hall The McDougal Center has invited the spouses and partners to be their guests at the Dining Hall at the Graduate School. 1pm – McDougal Center Tour See what resources and comfy spaces await you here at the Graduate Student Life Center. 2pm – Yale Center for British Art Tour @ 1080 Chapel Street Come along to this specially arranged docent-led tour of the BAC and hear briefly about their volunteer opportunities. 3:30pm - Ice Cream Social @ IC This afternoon social is also a “meet and greet” for new and returning spouses and partners. 10am – Meet @ IC (tea & refreshments available). We will walk to the bus stop together and be catching the 11am bus. Beach Day @ West Haven Public Beach Open to our new and returning spouses and their families! A “hidden” gem between Yale’s Main Campus and the new West Campus. Feel free to bring your swimsuit, beach towel, sunscreen, and a picnic lunch (there are also many close-by places to pick up food). Along Connecticut’s longest stretch of public beach, there are grassy and sandy areas, playgrounds, bocce courts, horseshoe throwing courts, and a paved walking/jogging and cycling/in-line skating path. Travel by public bus and learn how easy it is to use the public transportation system (bring $1.25 for each-way) to get to West Haven (it’s only about 25-30 minutes away).
