PREAMBLE The Southern Adelaide Health Service (Southern Health) was established in 2004. It brought together Flinders Medical Centre, Noarlunga Health Services and Drug and Alcohol Services Council. It includes Population & Primary Health Care, Southern Mental Health and Southern Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services, and works closely with other health providers in the southern area. Repatriation General Hospital, a public teaching hospital, formally joined Southern Health in July 2008, further consolidating the working relationship formed over the past four years. With an annual budget in excess of $500M, Southern Health provides care for around 330,000 people living in the southern metropolitan area of Adelaide as well as providing a number of statewide services, and services to those in the regional areas. More than 7,000 skilled staff provide high quality patient care, education, research and health promoting services. 2. SUMMARY OF THE BROAD PURPOSE OF THE POSITION and its responsibilities/duties The Senior Supervisor of the Main General X-ray Department is responsible for allocating and determining work priorities of the Radiographic team to ensure operational standards and efficiencies are met having regard to the needs of patients. REPORTING/WORKING RELATIONSHIPS (to whom the person reports, staff for whom the person is responsible, and other significant connections and working relationships within the organisation) Accountable to the Chief Radiographer. Responsible to the Head of Angiography and General X-ray. Liaises with referring clinicians, other specialist, nursing staff and Radiologists regarding the Medical Imaging service provided to the Main General X-ray Department. Exercising professional direction Medical Imaging Professional Officers demanding professional judgement. Team leadership responsibilities when working in the Main General X-ray Department. Reporting to the PACS Administrator regarding PACS Master User duties (General Xray). 4. SPECIAL CONDITIONS (such as non-metropolitan location, travel requirements, frequent overtime, etc) Job and Person Specifications are reviewed regularly as part of the ongoing Performance Development process. May be required to work within other locations of the Southern Adelaide Health Service. Required to wear the Repat Radiology Corporate Uniform. Will work mostly in the Main General X-ray Department and may be required to work in other areas within the Radiology Department as per roster. Some out of hours work may be required which shall also include participating in the after hours oncall roster. Intra or interstate travel may be required from time to time. 4. Provide an effective and efficient General x-ray service to clients in the MAIN X-ray Department by: Accepting personal professional responsibility for the provision of medical imaging services within the Main General X-ray Department and is required to integrate theoretical knowledge with advanced clinical skills. Independently identifying problems during the process of a General X-ray imaging procedure that may indicate the need for further investigations. Operating with a high level of professional independence within the Main X-ray Department. Independently performing diagnostic medical imaging examinations and interventional procedures appropriate to the setting in which they work using specialised equipment. Assessing request forms and patients’ previous clinical history. Consulting with the patient or patient’s guardian to document patient history regarding location and incidence of patients’ presenting symptoms or to determine the mechanics of an injury. Liaising directly with the Radiologist if, based on their examination, they judge that a different type of examination or technique will provide more complete results. Provide Professional Leadership to Radiographic staff in the Main General X-ray Department by: Allocating and determining work priorities of the team to ensure operational standards and efficiencies are met having regard to the needs of patients. The Main General X-ray areas include: 3 General X-ray rooms, Digital Fluoroscopy suite, Five Operating Theatres including 2 Imaging Intensifiers and 1 mobile x-ray unit, Theatre Recovery Mobile x-ray coverage of all RGH Hospital inpatient wards including ICU/CCU, Medical Wards 1-8, ARU, Mental Health and Rehab wards. Allocating requests from referring clinicians and specialists to determine the work priorities of the team to ensure operational standards and efficiencies are met having regard to the needs of patients. Providing training to Medical Imaging Professional Officers. Contributes to an exemplary Main General X-ray Department service for clients by: Assuming responsibility for external staff entering the Main General X-ray Department to ensure all staff and patients adhere to the medical imaging safety protocols. Involvement in research projects that supplement existing specialised knowledge and may contribute to the development of new or improved General X-ray methods and policy. Maintain records of service provision for the RGH Main General X-ray service and generate reports for management including: Equipment faults and service reporting Productivity Responsible for General X-ray PACS Master User duties, which include: Assisting with PACS training. Monitoring data quality and integrity Performing patient and exam merging tasks. Liaise with Radiologists and other Medical Officers regarding General X-ray Imaging data presentation on the PACS network. Specialised professional knowledge in selecting and adapting methods best suited to performing General X-ray examinations and presenting the imaging data on the Radiology Departments PACS network. The attainment of skills and knowledge through participation in further training by way of an accredited continuous professional development (CPD) program (AIR) or by holding postgraduate qualifications relevant to Medical Imaging.
