As a Registrar, this forms part of my continued medical training in Accident and
Emergency. I work in the resuscitation, majors, minors and paediatrics areas of the
department. I also receive further training in emergency ultrasound - FAST (focused
assessment with sonography for trauma) scan, pneumothorax, pleural and pericardial
fluid, AAA, DVT, noninvasive ICP prediction using transoptic sheath measurement
ultrasonography, gall bladder and renal USS, gynaecological USS, CT scan and plain
film interpretation. Am an active member of the Trauma Team. I am also involved in
Intensive Therapy Unit admissions and patient management.

I was member of emergency doctors involved in clerking patients, resuscitation
and treatment of acute cases. Patients were triaged into minor, major, emergency
decision unit and resuscitation cases. In addition, I have gained further skills in curettage,
cautery, cryotherapy and minor surgery – including joint injection. As a GPVTS
recognized rotation, I have gained a broad outlook on recognizing and assessing the well,
sick and potentially sick patient.
I was part of a multidisciplinary community team involved in the management of
asthmatic/COPD/LRTI patients, cardiac chest pain, renal impairment/failure, meningitis
and gastroenteritis. In addition, am able to treat many orthopaedic and acute trauma
cases.

While as an SHO, I was involved in admitting patients to hospital, as well as the
management of general emergency/critical patients – Category 2-5. Category 1 patients
were treated with consultant/registrar supervision. During my rotation I have taken
several courses including - ALS and BASIC update training. I feel confident in dealing
with Airway, Breathing, Circulation and Pharmacological management of the critical
patient. I have also had experience in the removal of foreign bodies from eyes using the
slit lamp, plaster of simple fractures, and suturing lacerations.
