Page 1 of 2 KENT STATE UNIVERSITY CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION Developed for Equal Opportunity CLASS TITLE: Pharmacy Technician Pay Grade: 33 BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY: Under close supervision, assists pharmacist by preparing prescriptions; records patient information, and maintains inventory. CHARACTERISTIC JOB DUTIES: Counts pills, fills containers with medication. Types required patient and medical information onto labels for each prescription. Delivers medication to departments in Health Center. Records medications dispensed to infirmary and clinic. Maintains inventory records; checks stock for expired medication and returns expired medication to manufacturer; rotates stock. Enters prescription and medication invoice information (e.g., patient name, address, patient identification number, cost, price, order numbers, NCD numbers, name of manufacturer, interaction and counseling codes) into computer for inventory control. May train and direct student or temporary employees; may participate in training new employees. Performs related duties as required. REPORTS TO: Pharmacist WORKING CONDITIONS: Pharmacy environment; requires light physical effort (stooping, bending, lifting) and extended periods of standing. QUALIFICATIONS: Required Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of pharmaceutical record keeping. 3. Ability to maintain accurate records. 4. Ability to read, write, and accurately follow oral and written instructions. 5. Ability to perform basic mathematics (e.g., add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, and to calculate percentages). 6. Skill in interpersonal communication to effectively interact with University personnel and public in person and over the telephone (e.g., to exchange information about medication needed at Health Center, to exchange information about patient's charts and identification numbers). 7. Ability to sort items into categories according to established methods. 8. Ability to type. 9. Ability to operate adding machine and a computer.
