Editor in Chief: Call for Expressions of Interest Dr. Kenneth Roberts, current Editor in Chief of the World Leisure Journal, will retire at the end of 2009. Consequently, the World Leisure Board of Governors will appoint a new Editor in October 2009, with duties to commence on January 1, 2010. The Journal, now in its 50th year of publication, provides an international vehicle for the sharing of original leisure research and scholarship. More specifically, the purpose of the World Leisure Journal is to stimulate and communicate research, theory, and critical thought in all areas that address leisure, including play, recreation, the arts and culture, sport, festivals and celebrations, health and fitness, and travel and tourism. Empirical and theoretical manuscripts, as well as position papers, review articles, and critical essays are published in the Journal. Published quarterly, and available in both print and full-text electronic formats, it is distributed world wide to libraries, government agencies, institutions and World Leisure members. The Journal is the flagship publication of the World Leisure, an international nongovernmental organization, founded 52 years ago and dedicated to promoting leisure as integral to social, cultural and economic development. It achieves these goals by fostering research and inquiry, by advocating the importance of leisure in daily lives, and by programming directed at policy and executive development. As the premier international periodical representing the full spectrum of leisure, from tourism to the arts, it falls to the Editor-in-Chief to maintain high standards of scholarship and ensure the timely and judicious soliciting and managing of manuscripts. The Editor-in-Chief is assisted by an Editorial Board of Associate Editors, and works closely with the Managing Editor, who is responsible for the production and distribution of the Journal. The World Leisure Board of Directors recently approved a revised Editorial Policy, available on the World Leisure Web Site. Call for Applications: A Rare Opportunity As Editor-in-Chief, not only will the incumbent be serving the international leisure community in general, but also he or she will be at the leading edge of the stimulating world of leisure research and scholarship, and as such be instrumental in raising standards and broadening exposure. Candidates applying for the position of Editor-in-Chief shall: have a record of scholarship and publications be familiar with contemporary standards and procedures for soliciting, adjudicating and managing the timely publication of manuscripts be sensitive to language and cultural differences bring imagination and new ideas about organizing and presenting content be knowledgeable and skilled in electronic communications Remuneration The position carries no salary, but all expenses associated with the position, together with a modest stipend are provided. Appointment and Term: It is expected that a decision will be taken in September of this year, with duties to commence on January 1, 2010. The initial appointment shall be for three years.
