Editor in Chief: Call for Expressions of Interest
Dr. Kenneth Roberts, current Editor in Chief of the World Leisure Journal, will retire at the
end of 2009. Consequently, the World Leisure Board of Governors will appoint a new Editor
in October 2009, with duties to commence on January 1, 2010.
The Journal, now in its 50th year of publication, provides an international vehicle for the
sharing of original leisure research and scholarship. More specifically, the purpose of the
World Leisure Journal is to stimulate and communicate research, theory, and critical thought
in all areas that address leisure, including play, recreation, the arts and culture, sport,
festivals and celebrations, health and fitness, and travel and tourism. Empirical and
theoretical manuscripts, as well as position papers, review articles, and critical essays are
published in the Journal.
Published quarterly, and available in both print and full-text electronic formats, it is
distributed world wide to libraries, government agencies, institutions and World Leisure
members.
The Journal is the flagship publication of the World Leisure, an international nongovernmental organization, founded 52 years ago and dedicated to promoting leisure as
integral to social, cultural and economic development. It achieves these goals by fostering
research and inquiry, by advocating the importance of leisure in daily lives, and by
programming directed at policy and executive development.
As the premier international periodical representing the full spectrum of leisure, from tourism
to the arts, it falls to the Editor-in-Chief to maintain high standards of scholarship and ensure
the timely and judicious soliciting and managing of manuscripts. The Editor-in-Chief is
assisted by an Editorial Board of Associate Editors, and works closely with the Managing
Editor, who is responsible for the production and distribution of the Journal. The World
Leisure Board of Directors recently approved a revised Editorial Policy, available on the
World Leisure Web Site.
