Marilyn readies participants for the afternoon session.
Ranch Pleasure Clinic
The Ranch Pleasure Clinic held at the June Show
was well attended. The clinicians were Liz Truax
and Lisa Anderson. The clinic covered
presentation to win and show ring etiquette. The
clinic started with commentaries from Liz and
Lisa. Basic information on showing in Ranch
Horse Pleasure was discussed along with
commonly made mistakes and tips for a better
presentation. We discussed the importance of
transitions and first impressions. We also
discussed the importance of being aware of your
surroundings and being courteous to other riders.
We then divided everyone into small groups and
had a mock ranch pleasure class. Liz judged the
class while the others observed. After each group
Liz gave her placings and her reasons for the
placings. Lisa gave additional tips for a better
presentation. People attending the clinic had the
opportunity to be critiqued on their presentation
and the chance to observe others and learn from
hearing tips to the other riders. Many questions
were asked by the participants and we tried to
answer them all. The clinic was well received
and a good time had by all.

Team Doctoring Clinic
May 15th at Huffstutlar Ranch
The Team Doctoring Clinic, held on May 15th, was a grand opportunity to enhance your roping skills, to
rope a donkey on a merry go round (nicknamed at the clinic as Donkey on a Stick), learn more about how
to improve your horse's ability to drag a log to dragging a steer.
(Patti and Aggie and Donk)
Roping the donk on the merri-go-round was
a highlight ofthe Team Doctoring Clinic.
Lisa Anderson has spent the
summer working with the 2010
Worlds Sitting Volleyball.
Rusty Gables Guest Lodge &
Gallery held a wonderful Art Show
hosted by Sam Nicolosi and Don
Paul.
Ten participants learned how to handle a rope from proper
hand position, wrist action, how to watch your target, and of
course laying your loop properly. Some stepped up to actually
roping some steers with a breakaway hondo to making practice
by yourself a dream come true. There was a wonderful lunch
served by Tammy Huffstutlar and Scotcharoos made by Lisa
Anderson. After much discussion on napping or working with
the cattle some more, activity continued with the advanced or
brave participants stepping up and actually playing out the
class. Many thanks to the patience and knowledge from our
clinicians Rick Huffstutlar, Nacona Smith, Neesa Smith, Mark
Anderson, Bret Mulder, & Kent Thedford. The weather
cooperated beautifully and the day was deemed a grand
success.

Got Versatility?
One of the primary goals of the
Oklahoma Foundation Quarter
Horse Registry is to promote the
development of the versatile equine
athlete. As part of extending this
effort the Board has authorized the
extension of a free stall to all open
and amateur competitors who
declare versatility and show in all
required classes.
To qualify, you need to
show the same horse within
the Open or Amateur
division in all
fequired
classes for versatility. All
regular class fees, office fee
and cattle charges will apply
to your entry. You must preenter for all classes to
receive this promotion offer.

competitors may

Walk Trot—Green Horse
We are offering walk-trot class specifically for green horses this year. This class will be judged
but will not be a sanctioned class. To qualify, your horse must be less than five years old. This will be
a great opportunity to provide show ring experience for young horses. The class will be offered at all
four shows and qualify for year end awards.
2010 Awards Program
The same awards program that was established in 2009 will continue for the 2010 show season with a few
modifications. The average will again be calculated on the entries in each class over the four shows. The
awards will be as follows:

OKFQHR Youth Members
Opportunity Knocking
Once again Bret and Ninya Mulder and the Mulder Ranch located in Sulfur, OK, are offering
one of their foundation bred foals to the youth member who wins the competition described
below.
DEADLINE: October 1, 2010
WHAT: Bret and Ninya are donating one of their 2010 foals to the youth winner. The winner
will be able to pick out the foal from this year’s foal crop of five. The Mulders will bring it to the
Stakes Show with all registration papers, AQHA and FQHR, the stall and stakes entry fees
paid. It has to be shown at the 2010 Stakes class and the youth member keeps whatever
money they win. Every foal the Mulders have given away in the past, have earned money in
the stakes class.
HOW: Write an essay on “What is important to the Horse Industry and How you can affect it.”
500 words or so, length is not important but it needs a bibliography of where the information
was gathered. Leap points are 75% of the score and the essay is 25%.
For more information, please feel free to contact the Mulders at (580) 622-6873 or email at
mulder_ranch@brightok.net.
Due to the fact that they did not breed any of their mares this year, this will be the last year for
this opportunity, so don’t miss out!!!!
