Classification Computing > Computer Support Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Definitions Application software refers to software operated by end-users rather than the computer system itself e.g. word processing. Peripherals refer to input, output, and storage devices e.g. monitors, keyboards, printers, modems, scanners, external hard drives, optical drives, accessory cards. Performance refers to how software performs according to normal operating standard. Single-user means an operating system that is only usable by one person at a time. System software refers to software employed by the computer system rather than end-users e.g. operating systems. 2 Range Performance of all outcomes is to be carried out in accordance with organisation standards and procedures. Organisation standards and procedures may include – quality assurance, documentation, security, communication, timeframes, cost or cost estimate, health and safety, personal behaviour. 3 The assessment context for this unit standard must be suitable to meet the criteria for level 5 in the NZQF Level Descriptors, which are available by searching for “level descriptors” at www.nzqa.govt.nz. 4 Legislation and guidelines relevant to this unit standard may include but are not limited to: ACC5637 Guidelines for Using Computers - preventing and managing discomfort, pain and injury. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Plan the installation of single-user personal computer system software and application software. Evidence requirements 1.1 A review of the software publisher’s specifications identifies and explains the feasibility of the specification. 1.2 A plan is produced to ensure the installation is scheduled to minimise disruption to the user. Range 1.3 time, resources, milestones. A review procedure is created which ensures the final outcome meets user requirements. Outcome 2 Install single-user personal computer system software and application software. Evidence requirements 2.1 The installation procedure follows the software publisher’s specifications. 2.2 The software operates according to the software publisher’s specifications. Range compatibility, configuration, access, performance. 2.3 The pre-installation environment is restored in the event of an unsuccessful installation. 2.4 The software is configured and customised according to the software publisher’s specification. Outcome 3 Test the installation of single-user personal computer system software and application software. Evidence requirements 3.1 The test verifies that the software functions according to the software publisher’s specifications. Outcome 4 Gain user acceptance of the installation of single-user personal computer system software and application software. Evidence requirements 4.1 An explanation of the publisher’s supplied operating procedures allows the user to begin operating the system. 4.2 An explanation of training and support options enables the user to obtain training and support. 4.3 A review of the installation and publisher’s specification allows the user to judge that the installation has been completed.
