Options for desktop software training Desktop software training includes the Microsoft Office suite and a range of other commonly used applications. A number of options are available to you depending on the level of training you require: Use online help within the software you are using. Ask a savvy colleague for a quick tip or a demo. Use the free Microsoft Office online training. Find a one or two-day training course. Note: The Computer Training Centre is no longer offering desktop office software training. Free online training in Microsoft Office applications (2003 and 2007) How to use Microsoft Office software (including Word, Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project and Publisher) is well covered in the materials available from the link below. Resources include easy step-by-step tutorials, multimedia, and written material. The site is also useful for answering specific questions. Ensure your request complies with Curtin’s Purchasing Policy and procedures. Government contract discount A discount for public sector organisations like Curtin is available for desktop training including the Microsoft Office suite. To be eligible you must: Select courses that are available from training providers from the WA Government Common Use Arrangements (CUA). Some provider websites list CUA courses separately. About Common Use Arrangements (CUA) The CUA processes and procedures are set down by the Department of Treasury and Finance and Curtin is not able to alter them. Classes Order both a seat and materials for each person. Classes have an upper limit of 12. It is possible to arrange a course for a group. Classes may be held at the training provider’s venue or at another negotiated venue. Cancellations No cancellation fees will be charged for the transfer of participants to a course at a rescheduled time or for the replacement of participants. You can expect to pay cancellation fees if cancellation occurs: From five (5) to three (3) working days before the advertised commencement date of the course – up to 50% of the cost of the course or seat; or From two (2) working days before the advertised commencement date of the course – up to 100% of the cost of the course or seat. You can expect to be advised of a cancellation by the training providers five (5) working days prior to the advertised commencement date and be offered an alternative time or a refund. Hours of Support The normal business hours for contacting training providers are from 8am – 5.00pm Monday to Friday except Public Holidays. Expect a response to all enquires within 48 hours. It is a complicated document, so the ODU has created short-cut instructions for finding one or two-day training courses. The original document has more detailed information about processes.
