Intercomparison of Radiation Measurements During AEROSE E. Verónica Morales-Irizarry Graduate Student Department of Electrical Engineering, UPRM Abstract The trans-Atlantic research cruise -Aerosol Ocean Science Expedition, AEROSE 2004- began on February 29, in Bridgetown, Barbados, and wrap up on March 26 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The main goal of this cruise is to gather measurements to better understand the effects of Saharan dust aerosols on the atmosphere and Atlantic ocean. Saharan dust can produce either long term or short-term changes in the atmosphere. As a short-term change, we are addressing the effect of Saharan dust in radiometric measurements taken by three different radiometers during AEROSE. Plots of radiation data will be used to analyze for differences between the three-radiometric measurements. Data from AEROSE for both clear and dusty days will be used to test the hypothesis that during dust storms, the radiation received at the surface is minimum compared with the radiation received during clear and-or cloudy days.
