Current Appointment :
Senior Consultant Pediatric Oncology and Hematology, Indraprastha Apollo
Hospital (Oct 2003 – to date).
Over the past 9 years, I have set up a Pediatric Hematology Oncology service
at Apollo hospital. All oncology patients are treated according to protocols
currently offering the best treatment outcomes anywhere in the world and we
have managed to deliver these outcomes as data is prospectively collected
for every patient. Our treatment outcomes for Acute Lymphoblastic leukemia ,
which is the commonest childhood malignancy are currently the best in the
country.
We have also been able to deliver these treatments in a very cost-effective
manner leading to a lost to follow-up rate of less than 5%. In addition, we
have managed to have treatment related mortality at well below 3%. The
hospital has also helped us to set up a Thalassemia service in association
with the Dept of Transfusion Medicine.
We have performed a number of autologous transplants for children with
cancer during this time.
Even though, the service is in its infancy, over the past 9 years, we have made
numerous presentations at the national and international platforms with the
data from the unit. I have also been invited for presentations and guest
lectures at a wide variety of platforms in the country.
Apart from a number of national meetings, we have hosted three large
international meetings, one in Oncology and two for Thalassemia in
association with Thalassemics India involving a host of international speakers.
It will be my endeavour to achieve the best results for our patients in a patientfriendly setting.
Previous Appointment :
Specialist Registrar - Paediatric Oncology (Llandough Hospital, Cardiff)
Consultant Pediatric Oncologist (Llandough Hospital, Cardiff).
Following completion of my training in UK, I was awarded accreditation in
Pediatrics and Pediatric Oncology. I found as a consultant at Llandough
Hospital, Cardiff which was the regional centre for Pediatric Oncology in that
region.
I worked in this unit, which is one of the UKCCSG regional centres for
Pediatric Oncology for 3 years. I had the opportunity to be actively involved
in the management of both haematological and non-haematological
malignancies, as also the long term follow up of these patients. This unit also
looks after the haematology patients from all over Wales.
I was also involved in a number of projects at the time and had the opportunity
and to present our data both at the national and international platforms.
During this period I was routinely involved in the management of autologous
stem cell transplants for children with cancer.
Clinical Fellow, Bone Marrow Transplant (Royal Hospital for Sick Children)
I worked in this transplant unit, which was the busiest bone marrow transplant
unit in UK at the time and was routinely involved in the management of both
children and adults.
