MVSc:
1982-1984 Khartoum University Master Degree veterinary pathology involved
a vaccine trial against Fasciola gigantica in the white Nile area in Sudan the
project involved a study of sistance to challenge infection disease surveillance,
the collection of many hundreds of samples of affected livers from various
abattoirs, the running of snail habitats and standardized controls. As referred to on
additional information, a programme of vaccination with irradiated metacercariae
and cross resistance between Fgigantica and Schistosoma bovis was implemented
by myself. Nb This thesis was externally examined by professor Hammond from
Edinburgh University and hopefully his report on my work speak for itself.
PhD:
1986-1990 Leahurst Department of Clinical Studies Liverpool University.
PhD Title “Deleterious effects of stress on farm animals and equines this also
involved a research programme on the alleviation of pain. An extensive sub part
of this study was, Very relevantly, on the effects of stress from Surgery and
anesthesia on equines.

As stated in my additional information, I was responsible for the service
delivery, resource management and supervision for the Red Sea Area.
Principally I was the person who coordinated the daily activities of three
places: a poultry farm: an abattoir, and a veterinary Clinic for farm
animals and every thing comes through the doors. Other duties include
monthly and annual reporting to the Regional Director, training of staff,
general public health work, and liaison with local health authorities in the
matter of rabies control .Being based at the Port of Sudan, I also had
extensive exposure to Import/Export and border Control regulations.
1982-1990 Department of Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology
University of Khartoum. Teaching and research post. Handling most of
the clinical cases presented to the University Veterinary hospital. We have
an equine theatre and average about 2 equine general anesthetics per week
and about the same number for Bovine surgery. Teaching of practical
Surgery and reproduction to final year BVSc students. Supervision of
students in the studs, where I taught Equine Reproduction and lameness.
Five year research programme on the effects of stress of anesthesia and
surgery on the donkey and the camel in the Sudan.

Here I gained very good experience of European procedures for small and
Large animal work, and gained extra knowledge of farm animal and
equine medicine and surgery. Importantly, I acquired extensive knowledge
of large Animal practice as well as animal health in relation to public
health risks, namely European quarantine measures, Laws and regulations
governing animal transport, Border control measures and regulations .I
was engaged for12 years in professional work involving a substantial
element of work with Equines, carried out regular infertility check, around

testing and pregnancy diagnosis by ultrasound .Handling the new
borns.Treating and handling infertility problems on males and

manger of the stud, I became very familiar with large scale animal
nutrition and animal welfare work.

Surgeon. Main duties. Looking after the health of horses diagnosis of
Lameness routine health checking. We have an Ultrasound, ECG,
radiology, IDEXX blood chemistry /hematology, microscopy and
orthopedic Equipment. We are a very busy clinic both from the
Consultation and surgical viewpoints. We have an Equine theatre and
average about 2equine general Anaesthetics per week. We have a
considerable Surgical colic’s. We very rarely refer anything other Than
orthopaedic work (arthroscopies). Managing The Breeding programme,
preparing the mares for Routine Obstetrical check (intrauterine flush)
swab taking: Cervical, intrauterine and external genitalia for
Bacteriological tests, Supervised the vaccination Programme against
Tetanus, Equine Influenza.
